Provence - Gite Question
I'm beginning to plan the second phase of my European adventure ... this part is with my sister. We are going to be in Provence for 4 nights only (in August). We will be arriving via Train into Avignon and renting a car for our duration in Provence and then returning the car and taking a train to Paris.
We haven't decided where we would like to stay ... options seem unlimited (Luberon, St. Remy, etc).
We would very much like to stay in a quaint, provencial, Gite or B&B. I am aware of the Gite website. I've been doing some research and have been finding B&Bs, Gites, Villas, Vacation Homes ... what I would like to know is what is the best to rent for 4 nights? I've been reading that most Villas/rental homes will only rent for a week .. some have a 2 week minimum. Do Gites fall into this category as well?
Any suggestions on quaint, provencial places to stay? We love French Country and would like to stay somewhere that gives us this true experience.
Thanks for the help!!

We've rented many Gites in Provence (I don't divulge specifics) through the Gites-de-France system. They all rent for a minimum of 1 week. I suspect most are "sold out" for August - their busieset period. Better make up your mind soon. Try Kevin's (he posts here) B&B in the Luberon

Or Patricia's (she posts also) if you want to stay closer to St Remy

Thanks Stu!! I just figured that out after 25 minutes on the website (not my lucky day).
I think we are going to take the B&B route.
It's our first time to Provence. We were thinking of staying outside of St. Remy and making day trips. Do you think this is a good "basic beginning" to this area?
Hopefully, we'll be back to this area and stay longer than 4 days .. but this trip, since we are only going to be in Provence for 4 days, we would like to get a basic feel for the area. I'm wondering if staying outsie of St. Remy and day-tripping would do that??

Yep - St Remy is a good area for your first trip. I prefer the Luberon, but others prefer St Remy.
It will be quite crowded in August.
We've vacationed for 23 weeks in Provence since '99, & I've developed a 20+ page itinerary that I've sent to hundreds of people on this message board. E-mail me at [email protected] if you want a copy

Thanks Stu for getting back to me so fast!! I would love to see the Luberon too .... my mom prefers the Luberon as well ... maybe our next trip over!
I do have your 20 page itinerary (the updated one) and I'm about to read that next to familiarize myself with the area.
I've found some nice B&Bs outside of Remy ... hopefully they are as nice as they look on-line.
Thanks again for your help!

Lots of posters here like the Mas des Figues in St Remy. It does look good . We have stayed at others near that location. There are so many attractive places to stay. First pick the village and you can find so many lovely places at provencebeyond, com, provenceweb.com, and so many other places here that posters will give a favorite but like restaurants, some will not agree.
Greox is not inexpensive so give a euro amout you want to spend a night.
