Proposal: 24 Hour Ban on Amalfi/Cinque Terre Posts
Snoozerama - I can't wait to read another posting on how to get from Rome to Amalfi, or where to stay in CT. Every conceivable question about these places has been asked and answered in the past few months alone. Perhaps we could observe a 24 hour moratorium.

Newcomers may not realize that their topics have been asked and answered a hundred times this week alone. <BR>I've found that newcomers see this forum, ask a question, and don't notice the Search function, don't realize they can scroll down to look at previous topics, don't know that there are other sources of info on this Fodor's website <BR>such as "Destinations", "Rants and Raves", etc. Some have suggested over the years that these explanations and suggestions be made more explicit before a person posts a new message, but those changes have not occurred. Of course some newbies deliberately bypass those options anyway just to get their messages posted, but it's hard to separate laziness from inexperience. <BR> <BR>It seems to me that topics that sound boring are easily avoided if that's what you want to do; all anyone has to do is not read them.

whatever happened to just helping people for the sake of helping them. What a ridiculous suggestion. Remeber the phrase from you scholastic years....."there is not such thing as a stupid question". <BR> <BR>At least people want to make educated decisions about their travels. I will answer the same post a million times if I know the answer. That's why I frequent this site...I like helping people, and I love getting info from people who can help me...

I was really mystified when I first came to this board and saw all the posts about Cinque Terre. Never even heard of it before, none of my friends or colleagues had ever heard of it either (they are mostly British). Is it called something else in British Tour Guides or is CT just really popular with Americans? I thought Cinque Terre was an upmarket restaurant to start with...

so what is the big deal of this question has been asked and answered a number of times. This is a travel talk message board so if someone wants to ask a question, even if its been overdone, who cares. It can't be matter of taking up your valuable time, if you are spending any amount of time on this site!

Some people like Diego really need to get a life outside of Fodors. How else can you explain their possessiveness about this site and their superior attitudes as to what in their little minds constitutes a "proper posting?" While there are some people who apparently have nothing better to do than to spend everyday on Fodors acting as the self-anointed experts on everything, there are many people who use this site for the first time when they are planning a trip. Who cares if they ask a question that has already been asked a hundred times in the past? Heaping scorn on them only limits the Fodors community to the same narrow-minded bunch of posters whose opinions we've all heard numerous times already. For myself, I'm always hoping a repeat posting might actually bring a fresh response, or an up to date or different opinion or advice. In the world of travel, things do change. If the repeat postings by these new people really bother these Fodors junkies's sensibilities, there is nothing that requires them to read or respond to them. They might even find something more meaningful to do with their lives.

When I first posted here I tried the Search function and it took literally five minutes to give me results. And I didn't realize I could search for something as specific as the name of a hotel. (So what does that make me? Someone who "can't find their way around the internet from the comfort of their home/office"?) <BR> <BR>Arnie, you wrote "The best way to get from one place to another is to get a dam map and read it!! " Well, there is often more than one way to go from point A to point B. People who have been done it before often know short cuts or routes that might look the best but have other drawbacks. What do you tell a tourist in your town if he or she asks you for directions-- "Read your damn road map"? <BR> <BR>Skip the posts that bore you, Diego. <BR> <BR>This forum is full of helpful people who are happy to share wonderful travel tips. Unfortunately, it also seems to have a number of hosile, scornful posters who see nothing wrong with being belittling and snotty.
