While I think the strictures regarding dress in MANY religions are outdated and a little silly, I would never dream of entering a house of worship of any of those religions in a disrespectful manner, wearing clothes that they don't deem appropriate.

The way I see it is, I'm on their turf. I'm a guest, and they're opening their house to me, in a way. Yes, I may consider their dress code unreasonable or weird or whatever, but no one is forcing me to go in.

It isn't really THAT hard to dress conservatively in hot weather. In fact, it's not hard at all. A t-shirt isn't that much hotter than a tank top. Neither is a knee-length skirt as opposed to a mini skirt. Linen pants are always comfortable in hot weather, and putting a light wrap or a long-sleeved cotton or linen shirt in your day bag is not a big deal.
