Private driver or group trip in Florence for trip to Montalcino?

Guys,

We will be in Florence for 4 nights for our upcoming trip. We have been in Florence for 4 nights before so have done most of the major sites in Florence. We took a planned bus tour to Chianti last trip and got to tour a winery/olive oil farm.

We are both wine and food people. My favorite wine in the world is Brunello..

So, what is best way to visit Montalcino? We hope to do dinner at Banfi while there. Should we consider other dinner.

Try getting in touch with LUCA at HILLSANDROADS.com. When we visited the area a few years ago, we did several tours with him both in and around Florence/Radda/Siena. Those day trips were a highlight of our vacation. I don't know if he does pickups anymore in Florence, but it's worth a try. Luca's incredibly charming and knowledgeable about the area. Good luck!

It's at least 2 hours each way. If you mean dinner at Castello Banfi, add another 20-30 minutes.

Did you see this link?

Jean is right---Banfi is well south of Montalcino.
If you did dinner you would get home after midnite and have to pay Luca or somebody for at least 9 hours of their time---I will guess about 350E to the driver.

Henry,

If you have already seen the sights of interest to you in Florence, why not stay further south and enjoy a complete change? The hilltowns are LOVELY, the wine is EXCELLENT.

I stayed 3 nts in Montalcino and just loved this little town. I thought I had died and gone to heaven tasting Brunello.

Any possibility of driving yourself around southern Tuscany?
Staying in the hilltowns is a totally different experience than just doing day trips to them.
