come again, Curt? there is no shortage of evidence that I am "here"... on any given day (plenty of posts, since this one, three days ago)...
...but anyhow, since I am responding to this thread again, I'll argue (a little bit) with Underhill about "nobody" knowing about Richelieu. If you search "Richelieu rex", you'll see that I posted a half dozen times or so, recommending Richelieu (and "La Maison", specifically) as a good base town in this area for those who wanted to try to "do the Loire" without the benefit of a (rented) car - - which, I would never actually recommend, for what it's worth.
And these recommendations were given on the basis of maps and info on the website bienvenue-au-chateau.com - - evne before I had ever even set foot there. I subsequently followed up with a few brief comments in my trip report of May 2005, when my wife and I actually did make a pathetically short "buzz-through" the town.
While I don't know if I agree with calling it one of the "prettiest towns" of the Loire, I will agree that it might make a good base - -if for no other reason than the abundance of plenty of walking-around nearby things to do and see, in a small enclosed locale. I think its distinction of naming the entire town a "World Heritage site" is justified, as best I could tell, from such a very quick blitz "visit".
