Trying to decide between Pachtuv Palace (junior suite with bridge view for 285 Euro) or Archibald Charles Bridge 3 person room, no guaranteed view for 211 euro, with breakfast.

Archibald ,the location is superb.it is in an area called Kampa island and real peaceful haven in the middle of the city. if you don't get a river view then your view would be of a pedestrain area which is quite quiet. The restaurant there is pretty decent too and I have often eaten there.

I haven't been in either, so you can judge the rooms etc as well as I. Personally, I would not choose the location of the Pachtuv Palace, wouldn't want to be down there. But I always stay in the Jewish quarter (Josefov area) or around Powder Gate, so that's what I like for convenience.

Looking at the website of the Pachtuv, the decor is a bit fusty for my taste and kind of looks run down. I don't like that style myself. But it says they have various views, did they guarantee you a view of the bridge? They say they are the closest hotel to the bridge (which wouldn't necessarily be a plus in my book), but they aren't, actually. The Charles Bridge Palace is closer for one. There are several just off the bridge, also (like U Zlateho Stromu)

I do like the Archibald hotel better, but also am not crazy about that location, but some people like it. I just wouldn't want to stay down on the island (Kampa Island). I like being closer to the main square myself (on the other side of the river), plus it's down on that island. Even in Mala Strana, I'd prefer a different location. But I know some people say they like being on that island.

I think the FOur Seasons would be a lot better than either but think its rooms are much more than 300 euro. This is my favorite hotel in Prague, it has exec rooms with views for only about 210 euro (which could suit 3) and a terrific location, and it is a beautiful hotel http://www.hotel-paris.cz/en/5-star-hotel-prague/ But the views are not of the bridge, although they say some can be of the castle (which is higher up, of course). So if you want views of the bridge, you probably are very limited in hotel choice. But you could compare the Pariz to that Archibald one you are considering. This is just personal for me, I admitm not logical, I wouldn't want to be on that island and prefer being near Old Town Sq and Powder Gate and the Municipal Bldg.

Ultimately if you like the style of both those hotels and they are guaranteeing you a view of the bridge at the Palace and that is really important to you, go for it.

Here's another hotel in Mala Strana and their suite does have views of the bridge and it's about the price of your cheaper one when you add in the extra bed, and I like it better myself. I think the location, just off the bridge is more convenient than the island.

Put me among those who love staying on Kampa Island. Reasons? As unclegus says, it is a peaceful place in the middle of the hubbub that is Prague in season. As far as views go, on Kampa you either have a view of Old Town across the river, the town square or the park. About the park, imagine sitting on a park bench at river's edge watching Old Town light up in the evening. The word magical is often overused, but it applies here. One of my favorite things on Kampa is that it is under the Charles Bridge and I would get up early and walk onto the bridge having it almost to myself. Again, magical. As far as distances are concerned, the bridge is a short one, and the walk to Old Town Square is quick and easy. It is an interesting walk as well. As a bonus, there are several good restaurants on Kampa as well.
