Prague - Opera Q. re: attire
My wife and I are considering going to see Mozart's Don Giovanni during our stay in Prague this July. We really don't want to drag any formal attire, since this is a side trip from London. Can you get away with neat casual? Thanks.

In my opinion, yes. When my husband and I attended the Opera in Prague in May (Puccini's Turnadot)we wore what I would call "neat casual" -- sport's jacket, nice shirt (w/tie) & pants and for me, dressy blouse w/ blazer, slacks and flats. There was a wide range of attire--so it really didn't matter much. The blazer and sport's jacket were the only coats we took on this trip--so they had double duty. Same range of attire was true for the opera in Budapest. Hope this helps. Kathy<BR>

From going to operas in Budapest, Prague, Lucerne, and Vienna, I can say that I have consistently observed a range of attire from completely formal (a small minority) to "dressy casual" (the majority) to extremely casual (man with no coat; woman in what can only be described as lounging pajamas). If you dress as described by kathy pompe, you will probably be in the majority. I have always worn a sport coat with tie and typical leisure slacks. My wife has always worn what I think she would call a cocktail dress.

You are probably seeing this at the Estates Theatre, correct? I was there last summer, and it was HOT inside. The Czechs wear anything from neat/casual all the way up to evening gowns. Most of the tourists are neat/casual. Enjoy & I'll see you there!(PS
on Giovanni is the Mozart opera that was premiered at the Estates.)
