Prague in Winter-touristy?

Hi. I will be in Eastern Europe for a month this winter. I fly into Vienna and out of Berlin, and will be spending most of my time in Poland. I am thinking of stopping for a few days in Prague, on the way to Poland. Has anybody spent time there during the winter? Is it terribly touristy? Thanks very Much!

We were there in November &, while Prague had a lot of tourists, it was not overwhelming & definitely worth the trip. Don't miss the Charles Bridge at night. As it was not bombed during WWII, the architecture is tremendous. You should consider Budapest as well, if you have not been. We encountered fewer tourists & it was not as commercialized as Prague. However, the leaders until the last election did not spend money to fix up the city. It is a beautiful city. Both are very inexpensive. I have 2 good places to stay for $35-$40 night for 2 with breakfast if you want to email me. Save some time for Berlin. That city is incredible. The history & people are fascinating. Have a great trip.

We were in Prague last March for 10 days. There were plenty of tourists but I did not feel overwhelmed. The back drop of the castle and the dark river lends an eerie atmosphere to the city...one could feel Kafka's words (if that is possible). It was extremely cold and the proximity to the river exaggerated the dampness. Dress warmly!
Prague has tourists year-round now - more so than even a few years ago. It's not overwhelming as it is in the summer, though, and you can get a sense of what the city's really like. The comment about the cold is right - the temperatures aren't anything extreme, but the humidity makes the chill go right through you. It's a good thing we have mulled wine and lots of coffee shops! Enjoy, and defnintely spend a good three days.

I went to Prague for 5 nights in March in 1995 and had a brilliant time. It was not at all inundated with tourists, but neither was it 'dead'. It was cold, but that added to the charm, and it even snowed. Walking around in that atmosphere down the old streets and alleys was lovely, especially when you could use the excuse of the cold to pop into wine bars or cafes! I like winter, so I am biased, but I think you will like Prague in winter too.

Was in Prague January '98 and it was wonderful. There were still some tourists around, but it was defintely the off season. Still, a lot of shops and restaurants were open. Always quiet and uncrowded, though.
It's a fantastic time to visit. You'll love it.
