Prague Gems

I am leaving for Prague on Thursday 9/16 -
assuming hurricane Floyd doesn't hit Boston-
and I know all the 'must dos' in Prague but was looking for anything that was perhaps special that many people miss, whether it be an historical site, museum, nightclub, concert, restaurant, store, church, street, etc.
Thanks

Be sure to visit the Troja palace. It is at the north end of a metro line (sorry, can't remember which), and next to the zoo.

Troja was a summer palace, and is now a museum. Very nice inside, and a nice garden outside.

My Frommer's travel guide didn't mention this at all.

I loved the Loreto...go see the diamond (and other) monstrances on display there. The tale goes that the diamonds came from the wedding dress of the benefactoress.....Also see the Industrial Museum. On display there are things like the Bleriot XI ( 1st to have crossed the English Channel), a pair of Racers from the 30: a Mercedes and a Bugattti, cars, trains, you name it. Its a great place to go on a rainy day. If you take a camera its OK, they just have you sign a slip stating that you are not going to make a book from yur pics and not share profits from such. Go see the old Jewish section and explore the museum there. There are several antique shops in that area. Of course, see the "Castle". Have a beer at U Flecu (14th C brewery). The word for beer is "pivo". And if you want a hot dog with it the word for them is "parky". (No bun)....The astrological clock tower is amusing and the area around it is full of shops to prowl. Hope the hurricane misses your area. Have a great trip. We all need 'em. -CA

Ron,

We just returned from Prague and had the best meal (and cheapest $25) of our entire trip was at a restaurant called Ambiente it is right off of Old town square just beyond Pizza Hut. We also found a very happening pub/bar. Take the very narrow street next to the big church and keep walking you will pass the Dug Out keep going you will hear it!
