Prague: 3 nights or 4?
Hi
I am planning the trip to Prague and Austria in August with my husband. Below is the preliminary itinerary.
Arrive Prague around noon time
Prague - 4 nights
Cesky Krumlov - 1 night
Durnstein - 1 night
Hallstatt - 1 night
Salzburg - 3 night
Flight back home from Mumich
We will be driving and are looking to visit small towns, lake and valleys.
We will be doing day trips in around Salzburg, e.g. Heiligenblut, St. Gilgen, sound of music tour, etc
We can also do day trip in around Prague but not sure what yet.
Is 4 nights in Prague too much? should I take out 1 night and allocate to Salzburg? Or is there other places I should visit and stay a night before flight back from Munich?

I'd say three nites is enough in Prague. I'd do a day trip to Hallstatt from Salzburg or see it on the drive from Durnstein to Salzburg. Look into Innsbruck, Austria, which is not too far from Munich.

If you are going to be driving, you will have a drop off charge with your current itinerary.
You could consider; 1. R/T flight from Munich.
2. Rent a car at the airport and drive to Salzburg.
3. Hallstatt.
4. Durnstein [Visit to Melk]
5. Chesky Krunlov
6. Prague
7. Landshut [About four hours from Prague with a stop in Passau] 8. Landshut is a lovely city. Nice castle. About an hour north from the Munich airport. Easy to get to the airport.
Look at a map and see if this would work.

The sites in Prague are relatively close together.
Three nights should be adequate.
Prague has an excellent public transportation system that will get you just about anywhere you want to go.
Check out Youtube for videos on all aspects of Prague.

I'd stay in Prague 4 nights. Your first day will be fighting jet lag depending on where you are flying from so not a whole lot gets accomplished that day. If after 3 days you've seen enough, you could day trip to Terezin or add another night to C. Krumlov.

We were in Prague last summer and it was very hot, so we were happy we had 4 nights/3 days, because we could not walk a lot during the day.
We saw all the main things we wanted to see, but did not get to stroll the narrow streets of the Old Town as much as we hoped to...
