Powerscourt Estate Gardens, Ireland

I have two travel books on Ireland: Fodor’s and Rick Steves. The latter suggests that barring a car (self drive) a tour is the way to go. But the tour includes other locations, so the question is, how much time for the extensive gardens? Fodor’s gives the public transportation options. One is a bus which then requires a mile to walk to the core of the estate and presumably the gardens. The other is to take a train and then a bus which presumably drops you off at a central point in the estate. Which option makes sense when the primary goal are the gardens? Since the area is only 15 miles south of Dublin, would a taxi going there make sense, with a return via public transportation?.

Same trip as my previous post about the Altamira caves.
