Posting photos for everyone to see

I did a quick search on these boards for suggestions on where to post my photos. I already know of many sites and learned of some new ones just now.

My concern is that when I posted photos once before on another site, I believe it was webshots, I had many complaints about spyware getting uploaded onto the computers of people that went to view my pictures.

What are some new suggestions for sites that allow you to keep the rights to your content AND are free, AND do not upload spyware.

I have also used something called villagephotos.com in the past.

If I have concerns about all these issues would it make more sense to put the pictures on a homepage I could create and have people go to the web address that would be created?

Statia, I saw that a free account gets
50MB of photo storage space. Can you give us computer dumbos a rough idea how many photos that amounts to?

Yes! Listen to ira. We had to have our computer wiped clean and start over and have every spybot adware program there is! And firewalls!
I cannot wait to see your photos!!

Hi degas,

It depends on how large your photos are.

My pix on a Canon A60 run about 0.45 MB each.

Well, Degas, I have over 230 on my site, so it's quite a bit of storage. I do agree that it depends on the size that you upload, though.

After the fiasco with the spyware last year I installed all the programs you suggested ira.

I just signed up with the worldisround.com

But I can't figure out the easiest way for you to get to my picture. (I have only put one so far, a test run so to speak.)

They give all kinds of instructions that require you to do searches for my name, etc. Can't I just paste a link direct to the page?

PLMN, go to the page that has your photos and cut and paste the link on in the URL address bar. I do it often. You can also send the link by email directly from the page, but I find the cut and paste method the easiest.

For uploading pictures to the web it's best to resize them smaller than what your digital camera spits out. My personal preference is to resize them to approximately 450x600 pixels. Your camera software can do this.

If you resize your pictures to this size they should come out to somewhere around 50KB each, so you could put 1000 of those onto a 50MB space (give or take).

If you use the pictures as they come from your camera they could be 0.5-1MB or larger if you have a higher resolution camera. Not only does this fill up your space quickly, but it takes a lot longer for viewers to download them when they're looking at your site.

Thanks Statia! I'm going to post the link in my trip report now. Maybe I will have time tonight to post more photos.

Bye.

Phoebe, nice family photo. Perhaps you can do a TV show much like Everybody Loves Raymond?
