Post Christmas week in London

I will be going to London after Christmas this year to watch my daughter in the new year's parade. I read on another forum that Harrod's is closed that week. Can anyone confirm this - or add other shops that will be closed that week? I was hoping to do some shopping while i am there.

(Firstly it's Harrods with no apostrophe)

I'm never ever here during the Christmas period, I'd imagine it would be closed in the build up to their 2nd January (or thereabouts) sale. Post Christmas shopping is a depressing experience, and even I wouldn't recommend it.

The regular second or third lead in TV news bulletins over Christmas is usually something on the nitwits who camp out overnight to be the first through the doors for the post-Christmas sales. With Christmas and Boxing Day falling on a normal weekend this year, I don't know how the shops will handle what would normally be 'transferred' public holidays, but since most of their customers will be away from work and quite likely desperate to get out of the house and away from the family, I would be very surprised if the sales aren't in full swing. Granted, I wouldn't expect to see MK2 in the mad rush for discounted bras in Mr Fayed's poundstretcher...

If you keep an eye on www.oxfordstreet.co.uk and follow up their contact page you may be able to get exact dates direct from the shops themselves.

Patrick - I agree that skating at Somerset House is a winter highlight; but this year I'll think I'll take myself off down the District Line to alight at Kew - this looks marvellous! :
