Possible to swim in Sicily in early April?

Has anyone ever found it warm enough this time of year to swim? A guide book I am looking at states that "you can rent beach chairs, umbrellas, and watersports equipment at various kiosks from the beginning of April to October." I have looked at the various average temperatures, but I am sure that it can go above that, right?

I have not been to Sicily that time of the year, but I have been twice to Tunisia in early April, and I suppose the temps are about the same. I tried but it was NOT warm enough to swim. Warm enough to sunbathe in a windless spot, but the water was about 17-18°C.

I was in Greece in the middle of April and the weather was wonderful, but the water off the coast of Myconos was very cold and I grew up swimming in Lake Ontario. Maybe the currents around Sciliy bring in warmer water.
