Positano Hotel

My husband and I are going to Positano July 5th for 6 nights, we've booked at the Hotel Marincanto, not cheap, looks great on the website. Love to hear some comments.

No info on the hotel, but I was in Positano 2 days ago and loved it. I had struggled with being based in Sorrento or Positano for 3 days. Sorrento was much nicer and very clean, but with a teenage daughter we decided on Sorrento. Next time thoug It will be Sorrento. Much like Greece built on a mountain, with plenty of VERY lovely shops and I liked their so called beach better than the ones in Sorrento or even Capri. Most infortant: Italy is VERY HOT right now. Take the bare min, because that's what everyone is wearing. Small stapped top, light skirts or capris and bring a foot brush because though it's very clean yr feet will be a mess wearing sandles and walking sooo much. Buying them there is 4-7Euro, here under $2. I ended up buying a type of tennis walking shoe by merrill in Rome.Let me know if you plan a trip to capri.
I'll write more about that later.

Oops, error, it's too early to type.
I meant Sorrento was much nicer and cleaner than I had expected. But so is Positano. My next choice would be Positano first. so very charming and I love their shops.

Hi SS

We have booked into the Miramare Hotel for 4 nights and then we are off to Capri for 3 nights - booked hotel there called Luna Hotel. Would love more information on Capri and what you did for your days there?

Do people dress up in Positano for dinner?

many thanks

Hi Claireo,

I was considering the Marincanto for a trip this fall. I haven't found a lot of information about the hotel on this forum. However, I do know that it is on the same street as Le Sirenuse, L'Ancora and Villa Rosa. All of these hotels have beautiful views, are close to the center of town, and close to the bus stop. I also checked the rating for Marincanto on www.viamichelin.com, and it rated the Hotel very well, although not as well as the posh Le Sirenuse.

Would you mind posting a review of the hotel when you return?

Thanks!

Try the Hotel Eden Roc. It is more affordable than LeSirenuse. My husband and I stayed last August. We had a front jr. suite with a HUGE balcony covered in flowers, with breathtaking views. The hotel is family run so they know your name. The pool isn't great but there is the mare so who cares. The restaurant on the roof is wonderful especially at sunset when all the houses on the cliff start lighting up...its amazing. The hotel is 5 min walk to beach, through the lovely, windy streets of Positano.
You must eat at Chez Black's. There was, last summer, a funky little Internet Bar with a great happy hour.
Have Fun.

My husband and I just returned from 9 nights in Positano. We rented an apartment - to get to the apartment, we had to walk through the Marincanto patio. It is a beautiful hotel. Newly renovated, high up enough for beautiful views of the town but close enough so that the walk up won't kill you after dinner. The hotel is on the ocean side of the road through town which means that the back wall of every room is to the road noise while the patios are overlooking the ocean. They searved breakfast every day on the patio we had to cross to get to the street and it looked delicious! We loved La Cambusa restaurant - went to a number of restaurants during our stay and ended up going back over and over again to this one. It's just above Chez Black so it has a view of the beach, not a view of the people standing around waiting for a seat. Ask for Luciano. He'll take good care of you and help you with any special requests you have. The spinach ravioli with cream sauce is wonderful. Also, check out the wooden booth on the pier for all travel adventures and take their day trip to Capri. 80 Euros per person and it was the best event of our trip! Day trips to Amalfi and Sorrento are easy by ferry. Trip to Ravello was great and I hit the jackpot on a great selection of pottery at an even better price than all other stores I had check out. Ciao. . .
