Which itinerary (Western Europe)?

Here are our itinerary options. We are trying to choose between these options and I appreciate any comments! We are going for two weeks next summer. We are hoping for some relaxation but also plenty of sightseeing and enjoying the locals, culture, and history.

1. Lisbon - Barcelona - Rome
2. Lisbon - Barcelona - Nice
3. Barcelona - Nice - Rome

Which would you choose?

Number 1.

Reasons: I'm not that interested in Nice.

With only two weeks, I would limit my visit to Spain and Portugal.

You're not going in August are you?

I Might not do any of the the three itineraries . . . if you actually mean '2 weeks', which equals 12 days on the ground, which equals 9+ days when you subtract for jet lag and inter/city travel.

But <i>if</i> those are the places you want to visit, I'd choose #1

I wouldn't choose any of them. Rome will be brutally hot in the summer, and Nice will be overrun with tourists.

Option #3. Option 1 is too much for 2 weeks and I'm not thrilled with Lisbon.

Hope you like hot weather!

If these are your only options I would do Barcelona, Nice and Rome. While Lisbon has some worthwhile sights - it is very limited versus the other options. You can tour a large part of the Riviera from Nice - from quaint hill towns to small but world-class museums to a beautiful coast line to an exciting and historic city.

I will have the number one with a baked potato and the house dressing. The menu says no substitutions.

Obviously #1.

Taking Nice instead of Lisbon is like saying you're visiting NY, Boston and Narragansett....

cheers,

I'd take Narragansett over Detroit.

Nice is a relaxing beach town. Lisbon is a busy metropolis with a few interesting sites, a lot of people, and a lower per capita GDP than just about any capital city in Western Europe. It's not in the class of Barcelona or Rome or NY or London or any other major destination for tourists.

Don't understand these people dissing Lisbon. I spent a week and liked it enough I've been back. It's on my "might move to" list, as well.

Well, you should add something like "In my humble opinion".

Just quick google search and this folks here http://travel.usnews.com/Rankings/Be...ope_Vacations/
disagree with you.

As to the GDP per capita... is that the criteria you use for your vacation destinations?

If you cannot figure out that what people say here is their own opinion, you're too far gone to understand IMHO.

I'm sure that if one reviewer from USNWR says Lisbon's great, then anyone who has had opposite experiences there MUST be wrong. </sarcasm>

There's no right or wrong about enjoying a given place.
You dislike it, fine.
I wish you enjoy it more if you get the opportunity to come here again. Sincere.

I've only commented because yours lacked logic, coming up with GDPpc as a criteria (?!?) or stating as a fact what's just your own view.

cheers,
miguel
