Portugal 10 days in one place

We are considering a 10 day (give or take) trip somewhere in Portugal in February. We'd like to stay in one place without a car where there is good food and wine, and nice places to walk around, some art and culture... not really into the history, though. We'd do an occasional day trip.
A city like Lisbon or Porto is a consideration, but we are wondering if there are alternatives like small towns or villages that would be interesting.
Any suggestions? If you had 10 days in Portugal and could only stay in one place, where would it be?

Lisbon. Aside from the usual day trips to Belem and Sintra, you can visit Cascais and Estoril, Obidos and Evora. Plus there is loads to do in Lisbon itself. My Lisbon TR is old but still valid - click on my name.

If you like wine don't miss the Solar do Vinho do Porto, Rua de São Pedro de Alcântara, 45. Some very good ports by the glass.

We spent ten days in Lisbon amd higjly recommend it. It meets all your criteria and
has good transportation options within the city and outside for day yrips.

This is good info, we are in Lisbon for a week and I was a tad concerned we might run out of things/places to do/see.

Oh no, you shouldn't run out! And the city itself is a joy to explore.

Do read my TR: http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...ing-lisbon.cfm

I've been back several times since, just haven't written about those visits. I think the Design Museum is new since that TR, and I found a very nice house museum on my last trip.
