Polidar report
When I last posted, I was considering the Polidar in Paris as one of our restaurants. We were aiming for local flavor and dirt cheap this trip.
I asked for bad Polidar experiences. Other than the Turkish toilet, others had mixed experiences.
I now report that I did not check out the Turkish toilet as I had promised. I did not have to go, therefore I declined the experience.
We were a party of three who did have ample opportunity to sample the food.
Here is our rating:
Service: Actually, just about like a good NYC deli. The staff is gruff, efficient, rough, and caring. You know what I mean. The waitress threw out the food on the table like she didn't care, but when one soup wasn't eaten, she asked, "Did you have a problem with this?" So for us, we like this type of service. Gets the job done.
Wine: Good deal. We upgraded to the wine of the month written on the mirror. May have been one of the best wines of our trip for very, very little investment.
Food: Win some; lose some. Pumpkin soup was really, really bad. Other soup was OK--just not that great. Chicken main dish was good. Chicken had flavor; sauce was fantastic.
Bread: Best of entire trip. I'm serious.
Dessert: Two lemon tarts that were terrible. REally terrible. One black current pudding in black current sauce that was out of this world.
Coffee: Excellent.
Atmostphere: Fun. Liked being elbow to elbow with humanity.
Would we go back?: No. It was interesting but not worth repeating.
