Can't we just stop the madness????? I'm tired of what this Fodors site is turning into. We are becoming like the French Revolutionaries and are beginning to slay our own. This is a travel site, not everyone can spell perfectly and what is wrong in sharing expenses if that is what it is?

After reading all the tirades lately I decided not to join in as it only feeds the frenzy. However, since I'm one of the other travelers going with Art, I feel compelled to speak up. #1. I have been to Europe annually for the last decade and have never used a tour guide. I chose to travel independently because I am an independent person. I can make my own reservations and read a train schedule just fine. #2. None of my friends want to go to Poland or Romania. They don't understand why I would want to go to those countries when Disneyland and Maui are so close or a nice cruise to the Bahamas is so much more relaxing. #3. I don't want to travel with my friends to these countries because I don't want to baby sit them every step of the way. I love them but they don't prepare themseleves for travel like the "fodorites" do and it's stressful to make sure everyone has their moneybelts cinched and their passports put away and their traveler's checks handy. #4. I like this website because I can learn from fellow travellers and have the opportunity to meet people with a common love of traveling in the manner that I do. I've talked to Art a couple of times and he does not come across as someone who wants to start his own travel agency. From what I hear, travel agents don't make all that much money from the private sector. The real money is in booking corporate travel arrangements. #5 Art is looking for someone to travel with and share the gas and rental car costs. Fine with me. That's what I want too. There's nothing sinister lurking here, folks. We're just doing what Fodors probably had in mind when they started this website. People getting together and having a good time seeing the world. #6. I don't feel the need to defend Art. I just want to explain why I decided to go to Europe with him. If it turns out that he wants to charge me, then I'll deal with that when the time comes. I'm a big girl and know how to say no. I hope I didn't make any typos. Spelling counts on this website!! Wishing everyone happy travels and we'll let you know how our trip goes.

Very nice, Linda - - and Art, too.

And let me happily confirm your assertion, Art, it looks like YOURS will be the first "Fodorites' trip", beating "ours" by a few weeks.

I wish I could join you even if only for a tiny portion (southern Poland, at the beginning?) - - but I don't see how I can swing both.

Best wishes,

This is just plain silly. He's not a tour guide. He's just a person planning a trip to suit his own preferences, would welcome travel companions with somewhat compatible itinerary preferences, but if no one materializes he'll still go on his own. I'm not even following this carefully and even I can tell this is nothing sinister. There must be more genuinely evil doings some of you might enjoy investigating somewhere.

Thank you Linda and you also Rex.
Please let this die. I'm not going to defend myself anymore against the cowards who keep attacking me and others. I'm only responding because it was brought to the top (check the time). PLEASE PLEASE, PLEASE let this die and get on with legit travel questions and answers.

Art...I authored the mother-in-law thread where my husband insists on his mother joining us for a trip abroad.
You are too nice of a person to dump her on so I guess she will just have to think about Italy, hehehe.
Seriously, my husband and I would consider meeting up with you if our schedules would allow. You and Linda...couldn't be a nicer twosome to join!

Please e-mail me directly so we can converse directly if there is a chance that we have a small GTG in Europe.
