Have been to both Sevilla and Córdoba and my personal preference goes to Córdoba. Smaller, more intimate, very Spanish.
Haven't been to Granada yet, cannot comment.
Why not visit all three of them, + Ronda?
Definitely visit as much white villages as you can. Frigiliana is also my personal favourite.

Dear Tourist,

I absolutely disagree with the skipping Sevilla and adding Cordoba. I think that you will find, probably, 95% of the travellers to Spain in agreement that Sevilla is the most magical city in Spain and 3 days is the minimum. I also think 2 nights for Ronda and day trips to the Pueblos Blancos is the right balance. We actually just did the Pueblos Blancos en route between Sevilla and Ronda and then spent 2 nights in Granada and 1 night in Cordoba. If you leave Sevilla in the a.m. this is very reasonable and you will arrive in Ronda before dark (highly recommended).

I think an afternoon stop in Cordoba, if you could work it in either returning to Sevilla or after leaving Granada is worth it just to see the Mezquita (the Mosque) which is, IMHO, one of the true marvels of Spain.

Are you comimg and going from Madrid or from Sevilla? Are you using the AVE (bullet train)? I definitely recommend NOT having a car while in Sevilla and only renting on your way out of town.

Any other questions, just let me know.

Maria

If you haven't been to any of these places yet, I would defintely sacrifice Cordoba entirely and take one night from Ronda for Seville. Nothing against the other places, but Seville is one of Spain's must-sees, while Cordoba is actually kinda ugly, with some exceptions. A lot depends on whether you like small towns/countryside or cities, too.

Also, when are you going and how's your Spanish? If during the ferias de abril, Seville is an absolute (but expensive) blast.

Here is what we did last March. Took AVE to Cordoba
Cordoba - 1 night
Cazorla - 1 night
Granada - 1 night
Nerja - 1 night
Ronda - 1 night
Seville - 3 nights

We really enjoyed Cordoba - I wouldn't skip it - but one night is enough. We wanted to get into the olive country a bit - which is why we stayed in Cazorla. The parador in Granada was a neat experience - but one night there is enough. Nerja was great - we stayed at the Balcon de Europa - it was fantastic. Ronda - we stayed in the parador - would highly recommend. On the way to Seville we stopped in Jerez for a bit. Even though it seems like we were jumping around things are very close there and I never felt like we didn't have enough time anywhere. My two recommendations for your itinerary are 1. find a way to work in Cordoba, and 2. only stay in Ronda one - or maybe two nights - I think you will find that adequate.

Thanks everyone. We are taking the AVE from Madrid to Seville after flying all night from US. We've been to Madrid before so will pass on it this trip. It would appear that perhaps we should take one day from Ronda and add it on to Seville? Well then fly from Granada to Barcelona and stay there for two days. After the two days in Barcelona we are heading to France to visit friends. Perhaps we should even consider adding the one day on to Barcelona? Bottom line is we have 9 days in Spain and want to spend most of it in Andalucia and a few days in Barcelona as we've never been there. HELP!!

Tourist -- your question proves the old adage that if you ask 5 people a question, you'll get 7 opinions! LOL!

I would agree with the others that 3 nights in Ronda is probably too much. We saw Ronda on a day trip and I can't say that I wished we'd been there longer. It is a beautiful town, but small.

Personally, we didn't like Cordoba, either. Maybe it is because we were staying outside of the Jewish Quarter, but we felt there was little to see other than the Mosque (which is something to behold). We also enjoyed a flamenco show there. I would say if you could fit it in, it is worth a night, but not more.

If it were me, I would take a day from Ronda and skip Nerja and add Cordoba for a night and an extra day at Granada. Granada was our favorite city (see above about the number of opinions you'll get). We loved the Alhambra (will take the better part of a day), the Cathedral, the squares, and the nightlife. It has great tapas bars and a real "city energy."

Again, just my humble opinion.

Hi again,If possible, take the Ave only to Cordoba. It's the only logical way for you to see it w/out backtracking.Ideally allow yourself a couple of hours to see the Mesquita and get back on the next Ave or train to Sevilla.Try to stay near the cathedral, see a flamenco show, take a ride on the river at night. Two nights, pick up the car early and set out for Ronda, wining mountain road so be careful, all defensive driving.Depending on the time you spend in Ronda, you may make it to Marbella for 2 nights.Early the next day,I always suggest driving down to see the rock of Gibraltar.Leave the car on the Spanish side and walk over.Take a tour of the rock, the apes are amazing as is the history. If you really have the time, take a hovercraft over to Tangiers.Yes I know it's touristy but quite an experience, book the tour in Gibraltar, the shortest one.The ride on the hovercraf ton the Mediterranean is super!Back to Marbella ,I love the old quarter and watching the beautiful people on/off the beach.Early next morning go up tsome of the white villages and then continue on through Torremolinos to Malaga-spend the day/night and very early set off for Granada.Get your tickets ahead of time for the Alhambra and get there early.Either get a guided tour or the headsets or you'll miss alot!Once in Granada you won't need the car because driving parking is tough.Good luck w/parador here, maybe there will be a cancellation but no big deal, makes sure to have lunch or dinner there!
If you skip Gibraltar & Tangiers you could drive to Nerja, quieter beach but check out the caves!

7nights...great info. I do appreciate all your input. We were going to "park" the car at our hotel (hopefully paradore) in Granada and then take it to the airport in the morning to drop it off. If it'll save me a day's rental, does it make sense to drive directly from Nerja to the airport in Granada and drop it off right away and then would I take a taxi to the hotel and back to the airport? Is the airport far from the town? Thanks again for all your help!

The Granada airport is small and about 12k(10 miles)west of the city.I suggest checking into the hotel first, ask at the desk about the airport shuttle or cost of taxi, make arrangements for your departure and only then drop off your car!Call or email the Tourist office of Spain nearest to you and they will send you great stuff about each town w/maps.
I've done this trip 4 times w/groups,enjoy,relax and I'm envious!
