Please help - Train Strike Questions Oct 18

We are currently booked to travel from Rapallo to Civatavecchia on 10/18. The transport strike is apparently going to affect our plans and we absolutely have to be in Civitavecchia on the 18th by 1pm.

I am thinking I need to go ahead and book alternate tickets for the 17th so as not to be stranded. I am concerned about delaying that decision as there are 8 of us traveling and we need to find a hotel in Civitavecchia that can accommodate our group for the one night.

We are unable to leave the decision until closer to our travel as the hotel in Rapallo will assess a penalty to drop one night after the 12th.

I found the list of guaranteed departures but the number of the train we are confirmed on does not appear anywhere. I cannot figure out if there a train on that route that will get us to our destination.

I have tried to reach Trenitalia by phone but they are busy and ask me to leave a name and number for a call back which from past experience is useless as they have never called back.

Any advice is much appreciated!

do you know all the train numbers that travel the route? I see at least five direct trains if not more. If there is one how easily can you change the tickets?

Wish I could offer more but given what you've said I'd be looking at all those hotels in Civitavecchia now.

Thanks, Dukey.

I went ahead and booked a hotel in Civitavecchia for our group in case I cannot get this figured out.

There are two direct trains on the day that we are supposed to travel. I am not concerned about changing our tickets as they were very discounted and Trenitalia will not allow changes or refunds, even if they strike.

I am ok with buying new tickets but I cannot figure out which trains will run as none of them match the numbers on the list of guaranteed trains.

I suppose you know that the railway strike begins Oct 17th at 9pm
Last train to take from Rapallo: Rapallo dp 15.23

The following train may run Oct 10th:
505, Rapallo dp 9.23 - Civitavecchia ar 13.25

Ask at the railway station

BTW: there is no longer season at Rapallo, absolutely no need to book hotels ahead

I was referring to making reservations at a hotel in Civitavecchia, not Rapallo, as there are not very many. We have had our reservations in Rapallo for months and our hotel has been sold out for quite some time.

Yes, I am aware of when the strike begins which is why we are looking at an afternoon train on the 17th as an alternative.

We have tickets on #505 on the 18th but I do not see that listed on the guaranteed departures.

Well, one thing, at least you'll be in town if you take an earlier train although there doesn't seem to be a lot to do in that town.

And do yourself a favor and take a taxi to the ship after all of this stress

The hotel in Civitavecchia provides a shuttle to the port so at least that is taken care of.

I don't know to which list you are referring to. In the list I found, train 505 Ventimiglia - Roma T is mentioned as guaranteed train in case of strike.
http://www.trenitalia.com/cms-file/a..._garantiti.pdf

BTW: there are 22 hotels at Civitavecchia and Marinella, as well as 9 hotels in the much more interesting city of Tarquinia nearby.

Thank you for that list as it is different from the one on the Trenitalia site for Liguria.

We need four rooms total and of those 22, only three had rooms for all of us, and only has decent ratings.
