Please help me decide-Prague hotels
Hi there, I am running the Prague Marathon on May 19, and the start line is in the Old Town square, I believe. I'd like to book a hotel in that area, and so far I have been referred to these 3 hotels:
HOTEL U STARÉ PANÍ - www.ustarepani.cz
BETLEM CLUB - www.betlemclub.cz
Hotel U KLENOTINIKA - www.uklenotnika.cz

Price is important to me, but so is safety, cleanliness, and pleasant staff. I think the prices for a double per night at this time are about $100, more or less. Does anyone have experience with these hotels, or have a better suggestion? Thanks in advance...

I have heard of the first two so I would enter those hotel names in the search area and see what people have said. I stayed at an adorable place called Dum U Krale Jiriho which was around $50 for a double. I have also seen Cloister Inn mentioned many times and went by it when I was there, very nice also but a little more expensive.

The Bethlem Club is in the same square as the Cloister Inn and the Bethlem Chapel. I recommended the Bethlem Club to an acquaintance of mine that was there in the beginning of February. He said he had a very nice room. It's in a safe area and just off Karlova Street, and very close to the Charles Bridge. I stayed at the House at the Charles Bridge in Mala Strana, but it is probably out of your price range during high season.

The U Klenotinika is on Rystirka Street. I happened to have been on that street, as that is where Ticket Pro is located, and I needed to pick up a prepaid ticket to a concert that I was attending. The street is quite wide and very commercial. There are plenty of restaurants and shops in the area. It's close to Old Town Square and very near the Municipal Building. I was also on that street in the early morning (about 7:30am) as that is where many of the excursion tours depart from. There's a lot of activity on that street at all hours.

The Bethlem Club is in a more subdued area, meaning more quiet.

We stayed at Penzion Balbin on Balbinova near the Muzeum Metro & Wenceslas Square. It is on the top floors of an apartment building (yes, elevator after 1st flight) with locked door to outside so safe, staff is friendly and English-speaking, good buffet breakfasts, clean rooms with skylights and showers/toilets in room. You would be a 5-10 minute walk from Old Town Square. Try www.avetravel.cz or nethotels.com for information and reservations.
