One way Lucerne to Spiez or Thun you may want to take a slower route via Interlaken but much more scenic as you from Interlaken-Ost take the Brunig Pass route up and over the Brunig Pass -part of the Golden Pass scenic train route. Spiez to Interlaken is just about 20 minutes or so.

You could go Lucerne-Bern-Spiez- then take boat to Oberhofen then take boat to Interlaken from there. Then Brunig Pass line -outstandingly scenic day.

Thanks so much Mokka and Palen! I think one of our day trips will be
Lucerne-Bern-Spiez. We will check out the castle and the area. We will make our way to the marina to have lunch. Any good recommendations? After lunch we will take the boat to Oberhofen ad check out the castle and surrounding area. Take the boat to Interlaken and train back to lucerne.

With one other day trip available.........do we choose Bern or to Engelberg to see titlus? The only reason I was leaning more towards Bern is because on our trip last year to Switzerland most of our time was spent in the "mountains"

Thoughts?

Its entirely up to your wish to be in the mountains or in a cool city.
If you've had your fill of mountains, then choose Bern. Easy to navigate, double layered (upstairs, downstairs) arcades shops, lots of cafes al fresco,
beautiful fountains (do some research beforehand), the bears, Muenster, clock tower, Einsteinhaus, Altes Tramdepot brewery, Rosengarten.
Just be sure to wander OFF the main thoroughfare to see the oldest party.

Sorry, no recommendations come to mind for Oberhofen, but for Berner
Roesti--Le Mazot or Anker!

Well then Bern for sure -really neat city - spend the day there.

Titlis is nice but not nicer than what you've seen.

Bring in anything you need for the short term to beat still high prices in Switzerland!

Stock up at breakfast buffets - not as Rick Steves once advised years ago by filling your pockets but by stuffing yourself - I gorge enough so I am not hungry at lunch.
