BigRuss just read your post again and see you mentioned Westminster. I know the IC is directly across the street from St. James and St. Ermins is around the corner, also very close. Can't recall where I saw it, but read Embankment is nearest tube stop to Royal Horseguards.

OK - that makes sense -- the two stations are dependent on which hotel you choose - I get it.
All three are lovely - if it was me the choice would tip (just barely) to the St James's park properties.
I know St Ermins (haven't stayed there - just the public rooms which are really nice) and last stay at Royal HorseGuards was years ago so I'm just talking about locations. I'd be happy at any of them though.

Read a few more reviews on hotels and sounds like St. James area doesn't have many night time options for dining or grocers. One review mentioned nearby restaurants and shops close early. Would be nice to lodge in an area where we could walk about and have pubs/restaurants to pop into later in the evening. Not a must, but wondering if we should consider other "more lively" areas... Any suggestions?
