Place to Stay in Poggibonsi

Going to Italy in September and am thinking about staying in Poggibonsi. The Hotel Villa San Lucchese has been recommended to me. Has anyone stayed there or does anyone have a recommendation for another place in Poggibonsi.
thanks marcia

Poggibonsi is modern and charmless. Stay instead in one of the nearby Chianti towns.

I totally agree with Sera. Not far from Poggibonsi are plenty of small towns with much, much more charm. We spent too long in Poggibonsi looking for a laundromat that didn't exist. Would rather have been in San Gimignano or Volterra.

I'm with the others, Marcia. Try San Gim, Volterra or surrounding towns/villages. We stayed next to tiny hilltop place called Casole d'Elsa which had a million times more charm than Poggibonsi. San Gimignano is popular and rightly so, imho.
Good luck!

Poggibonsi looks good on a map because it is close to everything but it really is charmless. We stayed at a wonderful hotel nearby but in Castelina. It is Locanda le Piazze. It is set in the middle of beautiful vineyards.

The name, Poggibonsi, has always intrigued me. Many times we've passed it by while driving in the area. Last trip we stopped to look and boy, do I agree with the other posters! Very modern--apparently badly destroyed in WWII. Nice name, though!
Marcia,
All the others are very right. Poggibonsi is a lousy little town.
Try to find a farm or a villa in the area. There are lots of them.
Try www.sangimignano.com they have some of them listed.
Ada

Marcia, Forget Pogggi.---ugly place.
However, check out Villa Belvedere, Relais della Rovere, or Castel Bigozzi all near Colle--a better location.
