tuscanlifeedit...funny you should use the word appreciative. When people find out I am not much of a cook in the kitchen (but I make valiant efforts!) I always say, I may not be able to cook well, but I'm a very appreciative eater! Thanks for the compliment!
tarquin...I drool every time I walk past a Furla shop!
CarrieAnn40 & AnnMarie_C...thanks for the encouragement!
annhig...yes, the bags you mention seeing in Florence are the same. My mom bought one too later in the week. I figure even though a bit pricey, I really got more than one bag...any reason to justify the purchase in my mind! ;-)
And...about the transport system...if I was traveling solo I probably would walk a lot more, but for mom it's a bit easier to jump on a bus or tram if we need to travel a fair distance, so I've become very familiar with the Rome public transit system. It helps me to look at the ATAC website before arriving and checking some of the locations/routes I know we'll be using. That way I became familiar with the stops and where they are located in relation to where we are going. And really, it's only been the last 2 trips to Rome where I started to seriously use the buses/trams/metro.

Loving this report LCI! DH's final Italy trip ended in Rome and we both felt like we had come home. We returned to the restaurant where we celebrated an anniversary 10 years before and had the same meal (they even made one special for us that wasn't on the current menu).
The tram system makes getting around very easy. Unlike the bus, where one must have an idea of where to get off, the trams we were on showed the stops on a lighted display.
More, please!

Hi gang!
Sorry no installment last night, I had no internet, cable TV or phone service due to a fiber optic line being cut at a construction project in my neighborhood. The good news, is I did write the entry, so I will post it when I get home tonight and maybe even have time to write another day and get it posted too!
Turnip...below is a list of the bloggers I follow. All but one is based in Rome, some I follow more regularly than others. Some I just read their blogs, and others I keep an eye on via Facebook or Twitter...I find it a great way to stay connected with what's going on in Rome. Here goes:
1. Ms. Adventures in Italy (Sara Rosso), technically not just Rome, I believe she is based in Milan
http://www.msadventuresinitaly.com/blog/?tw_p=twt
2. Katie Parla is based in Rome, but she blogs about all her travels, including quite a bit in Turkey (lately)
http://www.parlafood.com/
3. Elizabeth Minchilli in Rome
http://www.elizabethminchilliinrome.com/
4. Shelley Ruelle
http://unamericanaaroma.com/
5. Erica Firpo
http://moscerina.com/
6. Amanda Ruggeri
http://www.revealedrome.com/
I also follow a Rome sommelier, Vinoroma (www.vinoroma.com) on Twitter, I've listed her website here, where you can also access her blog, but the website is for her wine tasting business (more about that later too!)
CarrieAnn40...We actually found the Gabs Bags at 2 shops. Because after I purchased mine mom decided she wanted one too and the second shop we found had a larger selection of styles than the first. Here are the shops:
Fabris, on Via degli Orfani, this is right around the corner from the Pantheon and across the street from Tazza d'Oro, they had an ok selection but the next shop had much more.
Flacco on Via dei Due Macelli, 95. This is not too far from the Spanish Steps and had a much larger selection and the shop had a more modern feel about it.
Jamie...not sure if they sell them in London, but when I googled them, several online shops came up which appeared to have them in stock. BUT...you'll be in Italy in June, yes? You might be able to find them in Bologna. Sadly I don't have any leads on shops in Bologna for you though! You may want to check the Gabs Bags website, there is a shop locator there, but it didn't have Rome shops when I looked, so don't know if any place in Bologna would be listed.
ReadyToGo...you will definitely be able to find them somewhere in Florence, they are made there and on the Gabs Bags website if you look in the shop locator section there are tons of listings in Florence...when I put in the information for Rome, nothing came up and I thought I wouldn't be able to find them in Rome, but it wasn't a problem, once we saw the first one, we saw several more shops that sold them.

Jamie...
Thanks for posting that video! That's the video I had seen prior to going on the trip, where I fell in love with the bag! The video I saw had a bag with different colors.
The video link posted above is the same style bag I have. However, mine is multi-colored, blue, pink, purple & turquoise and my inside bag is not what looks in the video to be patent leather, mine is more rain resistant material.
The bag my mom bought is more of a full square and converts into several different bags, even a cube...love that one too! ;-)

bought one! in fact, i bought one for me, and one for a birthday present for my DD. [i couldn't justify paying the delivery charge just for one bag!]
online, through the italian version of the website.
if DH finds out, LCI, I'm blaming you!

mmm - not altogether sure what they were called [the bags, that is]. the one for me is one from the outlet/sale section - a black tote - and the other was a green one with a Jack Russell on it; we have a jack russell and my DD loves green so that one rather chose itself.
i loved the bags themselves, so the fact that they convert to other bags is just a bonus.
I'll let you know how my long-distance internet shopping turns out!
