Piedmont Italy
I will be traveling with my husband to the piedmont region 10/13-10/21 celebrating our big birthdays
We are landing in Turin & returning from Turin
We need help with an itinerary for the 7 days
We love to drink wine maybe do some biking or hiking & eat great food
We plan on renting a car
We need suggestions for lodging we like small upscale B&B's
A friend suggested the towns of Alba & Baralo
We visited Lake Como a few years ago & loved it
So we can split our trip if possible to see some of the Lake Regions
Look forward to hearing back with some great suggestions
Best
Carol

The Piemonte tourist board has one of the best websites for tourist itineraries on the web. Worth your while to check it out.

The truffle fair will be held every weekend in Alba during the time you will be in Italy and it can be extremely crowded and lodgings are pricier. You might want to pick another town.
If you are a keen fan of bicycling then this is useful webs tie:

Be sure to check weather forecasts just before you go and are packing. Piemonte can get some sharp drops in temps by mid-October or be rather balmy. Best to check.

In October, the weather in the Alps is often better than in the plain.
Check Aosta Valley (although many things will be closed in October, but the same will be true for Lake Maggiore, easy to reach from Turin by train via Novara where you will have to change).

Unfortunately, you will miss the donkey races in Alba held Oct. 5 with it's wonderful parade and festival.
Suggest you make time for Barberesco, great wine town.
My wife and I stayed at Tenuta Carretta in Piobesi d'Alba. The restaurant is very good as was our room as used for our winery visit. The winery makes good Barbaresco, Barolo and Barbera wines.

Hi carolg929,
Since you love wine, the Piedmont will be perfect for you. My husband and I had a fantastic time setting out for different wine towns every day, enjoying the scenery, special ambiance of each town, and of course, tasting wine along the way. For details, here is the link to my Fodor's Trip Report http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...-lake-orta.cfm and my trip blog (with pictures)http://supsictravelsitaly.blogspot.com/
Have a wonderful trip! (Wish I were going back!)
