That's a GREAT price for anyone going to Paris -- and that's your ONLY destination. Lucky you.
For people going to another Europe Destination, Chas. DeGaulle is a Nightmare, for connections... not advised if the connection time is under 2.5 hours. I've never SEEN a more complicated airport, slowest transport between different wings, unhelpful personnel. Eeek. Never again.

Yup, the rest of the travel will be trains. Question: We will train to Dijon and Beaune toward the end of the trip and return directly to CDG from Dijon the morning of our 11:30 flight home. Is this doable? If so, what the best way to do it? Thanks, red

There is a TGV from Dijon direct to CDG which departs Dijon at 6:25 am and arrives CDG at 8:20 am.
I just plugged in a random date--check your specific date on the sncf web site or rail europe (but more expensive to buy from rail europe).
Congrats on the great fare to Paris.

dear grandmere,
I found it on the usair.com
and simply looked for regular fares for the last week of August out of PHL to CDG. I'm closer to newark but not at twice the price.
I'm flying sun 8/23 thru mon 8/31.

Sue:
Just wanted to let you know that we've driven to PHL to take advantage of low fares.
Another thought: Both SW and USAirways have direct flights to PHL, and you could use award travel for that leg, then buy the ticket to CDG separately.
I am thinking of doing one of these: drive to PHL; book SW there; or use my miles to get to PHL, on a separate ticket. Risky I know, but to save so much, it might be worth it.

Deb, yes, that's a possibility, but a tiring one! Could go day before and stay in hotel, but then that obliterates the advantage of the low fare. I admire your bravery in booking flights separately!
I digress, but you have my good wishes for a great trip coming up soon, I think! Bon voyage!

grandmere. You could actually drive to PHL the day before and stay overnight. We did that once and used a park and fly hotel. They kept the car for two weeks in their lot for the cost of the night to stay there.
Then when we returned, we just drove home. You would have to price the cost of the car parking at the airport or at an off airport lot in Philadelphia and compare it to the hotel room.
The way flights get overbooked and cancelled today, it creeps me out to do two separate tickets. But at that price, it is attractive.

I go to the UsAir site and put in my days. Click on the 'low fare finder' and it will give you a 3 day range.
I just found:
departing Aug. 16, 17,18 and returning aug. 29, 30,
=>for $530 (before taxes)
returning Aug. 31 (Monday)
=> for $465 (before taxes)

aha! I think I just figured out the problem.
I looked at the details of the flights and the direct flights are $748/leg where the flights that go through Charlotte are $298/leg. That could explain the difference.

Sue. No travel plans this year. I did Portugal and France last year and we have decided to take some time off and see how the economy goes for a few months. We are trying to spend a little more time at the house in Florida. I must say that we enjoyed the weather there the last ten days when Pittsburgh was getting slammed.
I must say that that price to Paris really is tempting.
What about for you?
By the way. I have gone to the New York Times Travel show for two years and decided to skip this year. They must be hurting for ticket sales as they just sent me an email for two free tickets.
