Perhaps a stupid question about a cell phone purchased in Italy....
Last summer I bought a cell phone in Italy. Does it depend on the make/model or should I definitely be able to buy a sim card (if that's the part that contains minutes that you buy?) when I land in Spain, so that I can use it there? And can people from other countries call me on it? Sorry.... I have no idea about this stuff. I only know about my iphone and that's it! Thanks.

You really have to do research online. There are so many SIM cards that you have to see which one works best for you. We have used TIM and WIND but now we use GO-SIM. The TIM and WIND would expire if we didn't use it within a year. GO-SIM doesn't ever expire. We had to add time to TIM and WIND in Italy because it didn't accept the IP address from our computer in the US. With GO-SIM we can call to anywhere, from anywhere and receive calls from anywhere. We have it set to automatically add money/minutes when it hits a certain level. We couldn't do that with WIND and TIM. It's a little more expensive, but it works best for us. They also gave us an 800 number for people in the US to call us if we don't want them to pay for the call. We pay .35 a minute for that. It worked out great when we needed our doctor to call us. As I said there are other SIM cards other than TIM and WIND and you can see if they're compatible with your phone.

How much money did I save? I didn't buy it to save money, I bought it for when I am driving in the sticks of Italy. So that I have a way to call for assistance and stay in touch with family that I am visiting there, etc.
