penelope casas

Anyone know what Penelope Casas is doing these days? I have relied on her travel and cookbooks [and been very happy] but have heard nothing from her lately. I think her travel book "Uncomnmon Spain" is as good as it gets, particularly if you are into food.

Her book "Discovering Spain" is my favorite travel resource for Spain. I know she is some kind of consultant for LaTienda, a Virginia-based seller of Spanish foods and food-related items. Her latest cookbook was published about a year ago, I believe.

Hi weber6560,
I'm a big fan too. I wished that she would update her "Discovering Spain".
She and her husband Luis still lead yearly tours to Spain (usually October), and she answers questions, as ekscrunchy says, on a LaTienda forum, "Ask Penelope".
You can see her tours here:

I purchased her new book, "La cocina de Mamá" and am trying its recipes along with Anya von Bremzen's "The New Spanish Table", and Teresa Barrenechea's (of Bilbao and owner of the former "Marichu" restaurant in Manhattan) cookbook, "The Cuisines of Spain".
I've depended on her travel advice and recipes for a long time!

Maribel,

I don't know if you'll come back to this thread and read this post.

It's so good to read your posts once again. I hope you're doing better.

Since I'm not planning a trip to Spain in the near term, I only get here ocassionally to see if I can add something.

You were of tremendous help with our twice cancelled trip that finally took place almost exactly two years ago.

Thanks you. Thank you!!!

Hi Myer,
You are so very kind! I'm so glad to return to the forum and to hear from you again. It's great to be back "home" and to be able to chat with Fodors friends. And I'm so very glad that you were able, finally, (!!) to make your twice cancelled Spain trip.

If your long term Europe travel plans ever include Spain again, I would be honored to help you in your planning.

Warm regards and happy travels to you!
Maribel
