Patagonia Moneybelt?

I haven't seen any comments about this type of Money belt so here goes:
Patagonia makes a money belt that looks like a normal leather belt, but inside there is a skinny zipper so that you can put a number of folded bills inside.
I know that it won't hold a passport or airline tix, but I'm okay with that. I was thinking of it as a way to split up my stash of valuables.
Thoughts anyone?

How will you get your money out when you need to use it? Do you have to take the belt off? Where will you keep your passport and credit card? That sounds inconvenient. Have you looked at the flat pouches that hang around your neck. My husband used one in Italy last year and liked it. So did I. He could fit in his own passport and cash, so I didn't have to carry it for him. It was very simple to slip it out when he needed it.

Thanks Marty.
I already have a neck pouch that I intend to carry my passport and airline tix in. I carry the small amount of $ that I intend to use on a daily basis in a velcro pocket.
I was thinking of separating cash from documents in case of night train theft, etc...

Claudia:

I 'bummed' around the world using a money belt and I would recommend one to anyone. However, mine was the type you wear next to your skin. I haven't seeen the belt you mention but I would be wary of designer items. Any thief worth his salt will learn about them and be on the lookout for them.

Hi Claudia -

I don't know about Patagonia but we bought money belts like this (simple black with a silver buckle) in the L.A. garment district for $10 each. They work very well.

We each hold half the cash we carry and then we each split that up between our money belt and a leg stash. That way, our money is in 4 different places and then we just carry what we need for the day where it is handy. I have no idea how much the one you're talking about is but, when it has a name attached, it's usually too much. This is one of those items that I don't think you need to worry about buying a name to make sure you are getting the best. Leather and a zipper are pretty basic. Ours have been on several trips and even worn around home and are holding up very well.

Have a great weekend...
