passports on trains

I thought I read somewhere that on some overnite trains (ie Prague to Krakow), they take your passport. Is this true? Any experiences with this? This seems a little nervewrecking, especially since 9/11.

Hi

Don't know about your routing, but on the Orient Express c 1988 they took our passports and we slept as we passed through France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy.

Hi,

Unwrack your nerves. If they do take your passport, they give it back.

Inside the Schengen area, for example France to Vienna or Venice, you hand your assport to the conductor and sleep over the frontier. In central Europe, such as Prague to Krakow, you keep your passport and wake in the middle of the night for the passport check, done while you stay in bed.

I am sorry: which procedure is nerve-wrecking, and how does Seotember 11 come into things ?

Well, I think after 9/11 this procedure should not be considered nervewrecking at all.
