My passport expires June 9th 07. Can I use it up to the 9th? Does Spain have restrictions with brand new passports?

yep - no restrictions on a brand new passports - but rules re how much time is left on your passport. Best get on it ASAP . . . .

Boy, you are in a heap of trouble.

It is pretty much a rule that your passport should be valid for 90 days beyond the date at which you will enter a foreign country.

It is currently taking as long as 12 weeks to process a passport renewal.

Call the US Passport Office and find out how to get your passport renewed stat.

I thought you were going to Italy July 1 to 14. You've been planning this trip since last Sept and you just now figured out your passport will expire in June? Hm.

If I were you, I'd call/contact the Spanish consulate. We experienced this recently with my friend going to France. Her passport was soon-to-expire, the US passport office relayed conflicting information from the French consulate. Further investigation confirmed that the French consulate was correct - her passport needed renewing. She went to Houston for a day-trip and 17 hours later had a new passport in hand. France, and perhaps Spain, is part of the Schengen agreement - the passport is to be valid 3 months after the scheduled return date to the U.S. Hope this helps....

There may be some variation depending on the country. They will generally require that your passport be valid for the duration of you permission to be in the country. They want to be sure that you will be able to leave when your time expires.

Besides the airlines have agents that actually look at you passport. OH, they have added another twist, they actually scan your passport into a computer, most are machine readable now, if the computer starts to make funny noises or eats your passport, well be happy your in your native country.

A brand new passport, its valid for ten years. Simply renew your passport, delay your trip if necessary.
