Passau accommodation

We are planning a trip through southern Germany and need help with budget accommodation in Passau, preferably in a zimmer, B&B, or small hotel for two people(husband and wife). We have searched the Net without much luck. We are hoping for something under 80 euros a night. We will be travelling by train so would prefer something as close as possible to the centre of town. Do you have a favourite place to stay in Passau? Thanks in anticipation.

If the emphasis is on budget, maybe the Rotel Inn is for you.

We stayed there 3 years ago. Teeeeeny rooms with bath down the hall, but the place is modern, well-kept, and right on the Danube. 30 Euros/night double plus a small charge for breakfast. It's right near the train station and a 10-min walk to downtown. I would stay there again for a short stay.

Here's the webpage in German:

Thanks Russ for your prompt reply. We've checked out the website and put the info in our "just in case" folder. We don't have to go quite that "budget" but all suggestions are gratefully received!

Bombom, try www.bensbauernhof.com. My husband and I were in Passau several years ago and loved the little city. We didn't overnight there though. If you're going in the off season, you'd probably be fine waiting until you get there and stopping in at the tourist office for lodging recommendations.

What a good idea Betsy! We are aiming at arranging as much accommodation as possible to make the trip stress-free, but a little spontaneity wouldn't go astray. That said, it could be helpful to take some tried and true recommendations with us if anyone can help.

Can't find the name of the hotel but if you do a search you'll find it. There is a hotel where the rivers converge (I remember the photo from the web site), and the hotel has an annex that is much cheaper than the regular hotel. We stayed there 3 summers ago for about $60 a night. If you craned your head the right direction we even had a river view from the window. It was a lovely location right on the water. the only problem is that we had a car so I don't know how far it is from the train station.

I think the hotel the poster above is talking about is the ORT.

We found this hotel in a Karen Brown book a few years ago.

There are 2 hotels in the area where the two rivers converge with the 3rd one. Great area of town to stay in to explore.

My recommendation: Go to a bookstore, look up Passau in a Karen Brown book on Germany and I think the hotel will still be listed there with all the info. Passau is a great little city.
