We'll have a rental car for a few days, but may want to travel by train to an overnight destination. Can we leave our rental car overnight at our departure station? We are 45 minutes away from the nearest train station, and there doesn't seem to be adequate public transportation from our base. Is this permissable?

It depends upon the particular station and how much parking they have. Some stations require resident's permits. If you post what country/city, someone here might be familiar with the station or area. If you can't park right at the station, there may be nearby parking.

Sorry, I should have said Provence in France, and the station we would most likely leave from would be at Avignon.
