Does anyone know of parking in Paris, 6th district, if selected hotel does not offer parking? I notice that those hotels that offer it charge around $10 to $12+ per day. Is that pretty much the cost around there or is it more if it's a place not where the hotel offers it? Thanks.

I'd say that sounds at or below typical parking rates. If you're offered a place at that rate that's convenient and close enough, I'd take it. Alternatively, maybe you won't use the car at all while in Paris - - consider just turning it in and re-renting when you want to leave - - if that fits your greater plan.<BR><BR>Best wishes,<BR><BR>Rex<BR>

If you can find parking for $10-$12 a day that is a REAL bargain. The main queston tho' is why do you want a car in Paris? The traffic is really congested and you can get everywhere on foot or by inexpensive public transit. Even for most out of city excursions it is easier to take the train than to drive. So if you are renting a car to drive elsewhere in France, don't pick it up until you are leaving Paris - will save you several day's rental fees and lots of hassle.

I agree that it is not a good idea to have a car in Paris but if you have to park in the 6th, there is an underground garage at Saint Sulpice. Don't know the cost or any details but saw cars coming and going all the time.

We have dirven our RV all over Paris 9 different years, with really no problem. As we say in our book Invitation To France:<BR>==========<BR>To see Paris from our RV we just drive and drive, and if we don’t cross or go under the P&eacute;riph&eacute;rique, we’ll never be far from the center of the city. We try not to be disappointed if we can’t find a parking place right next to something we want to see, we just enjoy the area where we have found a place to park. We like to drive and park and walk exploring as we go, then drive and park and walk again, and at times park and take the M&eacute;tro. Sometimes we park and explore in more or less one direction as far as our bodies permit, then use the M&eacute;tro or a taxi to get back to our RV for a snack and a rest right there, right where we are parked.<BR>============<BR>Of course we then drive to the Paris-Ouest campsite, located on the Seine River, a short walk from dozens of soccer and Boule games in the Bois de Boulogne. For us, it beats any hotel. They do have manufactured homes with kitchen and 3 bedrooms for less than $100 (in 1995), right on the river, right in the park.<BR><BR>www.InvitationToTravel.com

Thanks for the inputs. Actually, we have the use of free car and will be visiting Paris 3 days and then the Normandy Beaches area 2 days. So, we'll have to find a parking lot around there somewhere.

huh, I would NOT recommend driving an RV around Paris, really.... I think public parking garages are usually around 100-125F per day which is a bargain by big city standards (it's about $20 a day where I live in the US), so $10 a day would be pretty cheap IMO. Few hotels in Paris have parking spaces, some do out on the edges. Ones that offer parking usually are just parking it in a nearby garage I think, but if you can get it for $10-12 in a place you like, take it. There's a public garage just east of the intersection of bds Raspail and Montparnasse on bd Montparnasse, that's really the 14th arr because it's on the south side of the street.
