Parking for day trips in Basque Country
We will be travelling to Basque country the end of September/early October. We plan on having a car for much of the trip, as we will be moving around. I know parking can be difficult and different towns have different rules.
Some stops we may make for day trips are Pamplona, Bayonne, Hondarribia, Guernica and Sare (to take Le Train de La Rhune). Any advice for parking in these towns, or parking in general?. I did research for parking at our various hotels, so have that figured out.

Hello,
For Hondarribia we parked at Parking Alameda, right outside of the Santa Maria gate. It was very convenient. For Bayonne we parked across the river in the St Esprit area - we planned to park at the train station but then found parking right along the river (pl de la Republique). It was maybe a 10-minute walk across the bridge. Others may know better spots on the other side - we had originally planned to park at Parking Gaulle near the Mairie but switched to the other side of the river given some of our planned sightseeing.

Parking in the País Vasco and Pays Basque
Hondarribia - there are several public parking areas. One of the easiest is in the park once you drive through town, Parking Minatera Ibilbidea. Parking is inexpensive, but have some coins. Street parking in Hondarriba is difficult on even the quietest days.
Pamplona - There are several parking garages in Pamplona. If you are planning on visiting the old quarter, then you can park in the main bus station parking garage, which has the most space. There is also the parking garage in the Baluarte Center/Performing Arts. It's open 24 hours/day. From there it's a 5-minute walk to the old quarter.
Bayonne - There is a lot of construction going on in Bayonne right now for the new transit system. The area around the city hall is a staging area. You can park at the Porte d'Espagne or Champ de Foire parking areas and walk or take the free mini-bus that runs every few minutes. https://www.chronoplus.eu/se-deplace...gratuites.html
Gernika-Lumo - There is parking near the city hall and at the bus station. If you're lucky, you might find some parking on the street, but it will be difficult.
Sare - All the small village in the French Basque countryside prove free parking, but Le Train de La Rhune is outside of the village, on the road to Ascain. There is parking, but you should plan on arriving early to find a spot.
