She means that she can buy it here in USA now.

Saks has sold Anick G. for a long time if I'm not mistaken.

Fragonard products can be ordered in the States but would still be a fun shop/museum to purchase products.

I don't think Saks doesn't carry Annick Goutal hair care products which are wonderful. Any idea where to find the shampoo in the States??

Part of the fun of buying from either store in Paris is the gorgeous packaging.

Speaking of gloves, I was just on line reading the New York Times and clicked on the, "Travel" section of today's paper, and there's an article on Millau, France and glove making! Happy Travels!

Thank you for the lead. Best shampoo I have ever used (it was a freebie at a hotel in Cannes!).

I've bought lovely scarves in Paris and they give me a thrill each time I use them. The other thing I've bought in Paris is 100% cotton dish cloths. My girl friends laughed out loud at me, but I don't care!! I don't even mind ironing them

I've also bought shoes in Paris and would happily buy a handbag or wallet. Last year I bought a canvas bag from Gallerie Lafayette that I use for my gym gear, it was about 50 euros.

Can I offer a comment that with your limited time I think you may enjoy wandering the shops in the area that Christina and Geunmai have described - it's gorgeous and filled with lovely boutiques. In fact I can see the shoe store Geunmai mentions in my mind and I can practically smell an apple tart from Poilane!! Le Bon Marche is a good idea, but I think you will spend way more than 1/2 day at either of the other two major deparment stores - they are huge. There is a lovely food hall on the ground floor in Le Bon Marche, don't miss it if you do go there.

I also don't think you have enough time to visit Versaille - save it for another trip.

I have a friend, who for decades, has only wanted me to bring her back a nice linen or cotton dish towel. So, I've kind of scouted out the different dish towel places over the years and that's what she gets annually. Smiles. Happy Travels!

If Versailles is important to you, then do it. My first trip to Paris I was there for only 3 days and we got Versailles in with everything else. Get there when they open in the morning and try to head back to Paris by noon or 1 in the afternoon.

I think I did everything you mention in three days. Beware that the Louvre can take a lot of your time -- keep an eye on you watch when you are there or before you know it the day will be gone.

I really enjoyed Muse d'Orsay.

Another idea for something special to buy is perfume. The Guerlain shop in the Champs d'Elysee is a special place. Upstairs it's all gold tiles and perfume. There are fragrances there that you can't buy elsewhere and the way the wrap it... so French. Parfums de Nicolai is also a lovely shop.

That said the one thing I bought in Paris that gets raves, that people stop my and ask "where did you buy that wonderful thing???" are my grocery bags. I bought the vivid ones with the French cartoons on the side, giant vinyl bags PERFECT for grocery shopping. I think they were 6 eu each. I bought 3 to give 2 as gifts but of course kept them all. The one w/ Madame Frisee et ses petits lardons makes me laugh everytime I pull it out. I found the best selection at a kitchen shop on Rue St. Antoine in the Marais.

I also buy grocery bags every trip. I love the ones at La Grand Epicerie which is the gourmet grocery store of Bon Marche Department Store, in the 7th (metroevres Babylone). I'll have to also look into your place in the Marais this coming spring. Happy Travels!

Hi Guenmai - the kitchen shop I love is roughly across the street from the St. Paul metro stop. A small shop, packed with fun things. My daughter and I find it irresistable for cheese knives, these grocery bags, etc.

Rose and Guenmai,

Are you talking about La Vaissellerie? It's small and I believe they have a shop near St. Paul, also one on Rue de Rennes and a few other locations.

Really fun stuff and I think decent quality.

You guys are making me drool! Purses, shoes, perfume, cheese knives, dish towels....we can keep the economy afloat if we just try!

One thing, though, if you do look at wallets, take note of the size of the bills compartment. I think Euro bills are larger than dollar bills and thus the wallets are shaped slightly differently.

And the check book covers that I have seen do not work with our checks in the US.

Yes, definitely check out wallets carefully. I bought one that did not fit my checkbook. Course now I don't even carry checks anymore, lol! The last wallets I bought were Longchamp and those are fine with our US dollars. I bought 5 of them, and they all work fine. But I did look to be sure before I bought.

Cathinjoetown-I don't know if that's the name of the place, but if it's the same store one as on rue de Rennes then I've been to it as I go to the housewares store there. Happy Travels!
