ParisByMouth website will give you all the latest, greatest restaurants, cafes, and bars.
The website will also tell you if the places you choose to go will be closed in July and August.
The website will also tell you in which arrondissements the locations are located.

Coming to Paris with a New York state of mind has disappointed many people.
Just saying...

Check out Chowhound. You'll find tons of recommendations.
One of my favorite places in upper Marais is Breizh Cafe. It's a crepe place from Brittany. It's casual and a great place for lunch, especially on Sunday when so many places are closed. You'll need to book a table on line at their website or stand in line.

Hi,

We stayed in the Marais a few years ago. Also recommend Breizh Cafe for crepes (and cider!). Our top pastry picks were: Moulin de Rosa (near Pl. des Vosges) for amazing almond croissants and Popelini for cream puffs. Also second Pierre Herme for macarons. I will eat a macaron from anywhere though - even had to try the $1 from McDonald's in Paris (but obviously not as good as Herme or Laduree).

If you like street food try one of the falafel sandwiches (messy but good) from L'as du falafel (also in the Marais). For ice cream I liked Berthillon on Ile St. Louis.

Enjoy!

L'as su falafel is high on my list of favorite things in Paris. It is falafel at a new level.

Pierre Herme also makes wonderful chocolates. Some of my favorites.

And it's true, Paris has lots of mediocre cafes, even ones with locals eating in them. We find it a good strategy to go to Paris with restaurant lists and reservations. I think it's actually easier to blindly eat well in NYC than in Paris.

Recommendations for Marais:
1.) Au Petit Versailles du Marais. Won an award for the 2nd best baguette in Paris a couple years ago. A nice little place for breakfast. Saint-Paul stop.

2.) Just down from Au Petit Versailles du Marais on Rue Francois Mrion is Don Giovanni Restaurant. Great little Italian place.
