Paris to Mont St. Michel?
I am going for two weeks to Paris and want to take a day trip from there to Mont St. Michel. I know it can be done using the TGV, to Rennes, I believe, and then getting a bus. Has anyone out there done this trip in a day? I would like any info about the bus line/ reservations, etc.

OK .. let's try this for a THIRD time... and assume that posting are limited by word length:

Frances:

I have never had the time to do the trip, but just in case no-one else responds.....

I think the general consensus on the board has been that a day-trip to Mont St Michel is challenging, but not impossible, as there is no direct transport from Paris (change to a local train or bus). You must set out early in the morning to get the best out of the day.

You can do a tour through Paris Tours, but it is a long day (pick up at 7 am, return at about 10 pm, includes lunch and dinner and I thought a bit expensive.

I have resurected answers to a similar post which may help in your plans. If you decide to stay overnight, search on "mont st. micheal". There are lots of excellent posts on hotels and restaurants.

For what its worth, my friends in Paris thought it was an abomination to consider only spending a day there - they say it is truly wonderful and an overnight stay is a must!

If you do the day trip, please let us know how it went.

Regards .... The best way to get there is to take the high-speed
TGV train from Paris's Gare Montparnasse to Rennes, where you can transfer to the bus service provided by Les
Couriers Bretons (tel. 02-99-19-70-70 for reservations and information, or www.lescourriersbretons.com/) for the
75-minute transfer to Mont-St-Michel.
Bus station is next to the Rennes train station, I believe.
One way transportation takes a total of well over 3 hours from Paris. You will need to take the earliest train, and
that should give you about 4 hours at Mont St Michel.

I believe that Mont-Saint-Michel can also be reached by train from Rennes to Pontorson (direction Caen). At
Pontorson, take a bus or taxi to Mont-Saint-Michel (a distance of 8 km approximately), but the bus is quite slow.
Given the time it takes and the money for transportation, this is one of those times when a one-day bus tour
such as offered by Paris Vision www.parisvision.com or cityrama www.cityrama.com
might be well worth it.

Mont Saint Michel Tourist Information Office B.P. 4
50116 Mont-Saint-Michel, France
Tel: 02.33.60.14.30 Fax: 02.33.60.06.75

train service info
www.sncf.com

http://normandy-tourism.org/

Author: Jim ([email protected])
Date: 2/19/2001, 11:29 am ET

Message: Belle,
I think the best way to get to Mont St. Michel is via Pontorson-I've done it and it works well.
Leave Paris-Montparnasse for Rennes at 6:35am arr in Rennes @8:55am transfer to train 89313; leaves
@9:00am arrives in Pontorson @ 9:39am. Take short 15min bus ride to Mt.Michel.
Return train leaves Pontorson for Rennes or Folligny @16:29 or 16.59 depending on day of the week and arrives
in Paris Montparnasse @ 20:00 or 21:36
stay somewhere rather than making it a daytrip from Paris. Hope I can help you sometime.
Take the train (TGV) to Rennes (from Gare Montparnesse). At Rennes you switch to a train to Pontorson. At Pontorson you take a bus to Mont Saint Michel About 4 hours total. You can also take a day trip with ParisVisions. For more Paris information e-mail me- [email protected]
