Can anyone recommend a great, semi-luxurious, romantic Paris hotel? Something special with a large room, view, location, etc., etc.? Either Right or Left Bank in the 3-4 star range? Any suggestions under $300?

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel California, a four star hotel at 16 Rue de Berri 75008 PARIS Tel: (1) 43.59.93.00. It is located near the George V metro stop on the Champs Elysees near the Arc de Triumph. The hotel is fantastic. There are approx. 10,000 works of original art there, and the rooms are very nicely appointed. We got a package through American Airlines Fly AAway Vacations. It was very reasonable. Bon Voyage

You may try the Pavillon de la Reine (near Place des Vosges), the Jeu de Paume (St Louis island), Terrass'hotel (Montmartre area).

I suggest the Hotel du Louvre. It is located across the street from the Louvre on the main metro line. The staff was great and the hotel is nicely decorated with rooms that are larger than most. It is part of the Concorde Hotels chain.
Another suggestion in the new Marriott that was opened on the Champs Elysses last year. It is beautiful and you can't beat the location. European style with American management. Good Luck!

Decide first what section of Paris you wish to be in. Nothing is worse that the perfect hotel in the wrong section of town. Refer to guide books which describe the arrondisments of Paris.

We stayed at the Regina Hotel...it's across from the Louvre...great staff...great rooms and location..it's smaller than the Hotel du Louvre but in the same area.

Just got back from Paris with my wife. Stayed at a beautiful Hotel called Hotel De La Tremoille. Address is 14 Rue De La Tremoille. 01 47 23 34 20 & 01 47 23 75 12. We paid $225 with AA voucher. 3 blocks from Champs...Quiet area with beautiful streets.

There is, however, always the Ritz! But, in reality there are charming hotels on Isle St. Louis and I would check out the Jeu de Paume. On the left bank there is the d'Angleterre which is well located and in a very romantic part of Paris. I agree that you must first decide where you want to be in Paris and then find the hotel. My 1st choices are on the Left Bank and the Isle St. Louis, and that's why I'm stuck because of business in Montparnasse in October. Oh well, it's still Paris, and the Metro is excellent.

To Judy ; Would you give me some more information about the Hotel Regina. I am trying to decide between the Regina and the Inter-Continental also on the Rue de Rivoli. I am looking for an elegant and alarge room with a GREAT VIEW OF THE JARDIN DES TWILERIES.

For a terrific view of the Tuileries, you definitely want the Intercontinental--but the one on Rue de Castiglione! (The other, the Grand Intercontinental, is near the Opera and not as nice.) The rooms in this hotel are truly immense, and you can specifically ask for a Tuileries view! Also, one tip: for $100, you can join worldwide Intercontinentals' Six Continents Club. Not a frequent stayer club per se, but includes automatic upgrade to next room grade, flowers and fruit in rooms, 9-to-4 check in and checkout privileges, and, this is the kicker, a coupon for a free weekend night's stay if you buy one night. For a truly romantic hotel, with lots of luxury but not outrageous ($400-plus) prices, try the Hotel Duc de Saint Simon. This is a gem on the Left Bank, very quiet street, beautiful garden courtyard, balconies, small restaurant inside hotel but there's also a lovely restaurant down the street, the Restaurant Saint Simon. For Paris, on the Left Bank, these are truly large rooms, and large bathrooms. Also, the owners speak excellent English. Room rates fall between $200-$300, and up for suites. Some of the rooms are almost like mini-suites.
