Paris Sewer Tour

Question for Les Mis fans and others - has anyone ever taken the tour of the Paris sewers. My 14 year old daughter is interested. Is it at all worth it? and where is it offered. Thanks

Someone else will give you exact info. Lew Egouts, on the left bank near Pont D'Alma, as I recall.
You go down a winding staircase from a small kiosk at street level.
My husband the utilities (water, power, wastewater, etc.) engineers was in 7th heaven. I was mildly interested. Our 10 and 11 year old girls raced through the tunnels and ended up at the gift shop - still underground, and with a fascinating video playing of the heroic sewer workers rescuing car keys, phone numbers on matchbooks, etc.etc. This was in January. No odor, lots of explanatory signage as you go. Don't remember how much it cost, but you might give it a try!
Con

"worth it" will always depend on the viewer, how strong the literary association is for your daughter. I've been know to trek all over looking for literary sites that probably interest only me.
It's been many years and I wasn't 14, but I found the sewers to be much of the same after 10 minutes, and smelly. It's basically the history of waste disposal, although it is kinda neat to look at the underground maps and figure out what streets are above you.
entrance is opposite 93 quai d'Orsay, tour takes about an hour. open 11am to 5pm. closed Thurs and Fri according to my guidebook

As a weird thing to do, I thought the Catacombs were much more bizarre and
creepy--real bones and all
here are some websites on them
www.infiltration.org/catacomb.htm
www.all-paris-hotels.com/catacombs.htm
and www.paris.org/Musees/Catacombes/
info.html
