I know at this hour you should be snug in your bed with a big smile of how your day was. It is 10pm right now here in Philly. I am getting that, I can't wait to get on my the plane to Paris. And all of your updates and pictures have just pumped my feelings for Paris even more that it is my happy place on the planet.

TPAYT Nov 26th, 2010 06:47 PM

Ok, so the pumpkin flan looked great, but whatever that dessert was in the picture after the fan---fantastic!

I do love Thanksgiving with my family, but your Paris Affair is what dreams are made of.

Bonjour all..

Yes, it did snow yesterday for about 1/2 hour. I was on my computer and turned to the window and big heavy flakes were falling. My new Alabama friends must have bben thrilled!
We may see a bit more of it in the next few days. It is chilly!

I actually ate 'in' yesterday after our big evening. I picked up a few light things.

Florent and Michael came by in the evening and finished off the nice bottle of Bordeaux that I had bough for them. I had a bit of leftover champagne. I have 2 unopened bottles of champagne!

We decided that we would go to Thoumieux for lunch together today. Florent has all his shopping to do for his restaurant in the morning and will stop by here and push my intercom button and I will then go down and join them.

They spent some time on Photobucket looking at my pictures, enjoying T/G and others.

They will be joining me at l'Obe in the Crillon tomorrow. They have not been. We will then walk over to the Ritz and Bar Vendome.

Have a busy last week ahead with Christian's cooking class, lunch at Guy Savoy......time has gone by and already looking forward to the return in mid April!

tpayt..that was millefeuille (Napoleon)...Christian has a good one, but think the biggest one is at Le Florimond! Really the pumpkin was creme brulee, not flan!

T/G is now a set annual thing at Violon. I have told Catherine . Florent and Michael are definite and new friends met want to be here, too and may bring family with them to be together. That's what you may have to do tpayt! Jim/Pat..know you are reading..you may need to adjust your plans to be here for T/G...how you would enjoy, as much as you like and know all at Violon.

It has been a fun, fun trip....

I just remembered Fashion Show/Tea at Bristol today!! I sent Florent a messasge..after lunch at Thourmieux that they could drop me at the Bristol for my next event. They may want to drop in, too.

I think I will then walk to Rond Pt and Montaigne and either take a bus or walk home..may stop at Goorge V on way home..who knows...I may need a warm up!!

Just for those of you who feel that you would gain weight. You know how Chico's has the odd sizes..not normal but 0, .50, 1 etc. I found some pants that were a size smaller than I usually get, but liked them. Brought them with me. Put them on today and they fit better now than they did at home..must have lost weight here!!

This is going to be a nice, nice day!! Glad I remembered the Fashion show. They are not to be missed at the Bristol!!!

You are a none stop traveler, just glad it is in Paris.

TPAYT Nov 27th, 2010 09:12 AM

Pumpkin creme brulee----now I consider myself a creme brulee fanatic and that sounds great. But I have to say the best creme brulee I ever had was a 3 taster dessert that had a berry, a pear, and best of all a pistachio creme brulee all in 3 little dishes on a long plate. That was in a restaurant in the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas. I'll continue my quest to top that when I return to Paris.

Until then, I'll savor your photos of all that wonderful Paris food.

Scootoir Nov 27th, 2010 12:05 PM

This is cruel Joan. After showing us the perfectly browned turkey and two stunning desserts you tell us you lost weight? A few months in Paris might be a better weight loss plan than Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig!

gracejoan3 Nov 27th, 2010 01:52 PM

Scootoir,

Quite common for people to say they lost weight while here!

You might be right..come to Paris for your weight loss plan!!

Have pics from lunch with Florent and Michael and Fashion Show/tea at lovely Bristol. Will enter in morning.

Hi Joan
There is little that has not been said about your Thanksgiving!! The pictures were wonderful and soooo inviting. Violon is a must on my next visit!! The French sure know how to do it.Everything was picture perfect. I just noticed a few recipes on the Paris Perfect website. i bookmarked them and hope to try them. pumpkin soup and a pumpkin gratin!!
I am missing Paris. I do not think I lost weight the week I was there.
Enjoy!

Bonjour,

I have the pics from yesterday...luinch and Bristol Fashion Show/Tea.

Thoumieux is a Costes restaurant and can be good/bad. Too many others that are consistenely good.

The Bristol is lovely. The teas was lovely. The fashion show was good. A Russian designer..perhaps that says it! Pretty girls and interesting. I did not see anything that was a must have!! I did see some strangely dressed people attending.

I walked from there to Champs Elysee and on to Montaigne and past the many high fashion shops...finally hopped on the #42 bus to my stop across the street.

It was a bit chilly out. It must be chilly this morning, too.

Today it wil be meeting in Crillon lobby..visiting their boutique. Others need to check out the jean button covers there! We will have lunch at l'Obe which is always great. We then plan to walk on over the the Ritz an and Bar Vendome..will go from there!!

Hi Joan and everybody.

We finally arrived home this morning, but our hearts are still in Paris, as we remember the extraordinary experience of Thanksgiving dinner with Joan and friends at Violon d'Ingres!

Joan, thank you again for including John, Hannah, and me in the festivities! Hannah will be back in school tomorrow, and what tales she will have to tell!

Later,

Byrd, John, and Hannah

gracejoan3 Nov 28th, 2010 08:27 AM

Byrd,

Glad to hear from you and you arrived home safely. I'm sure you did geet to see the snow. I hope you enjoyed your trip. You did a lot in a short time.

Ran into some really nice people who do want to join us for T/G next year. It is now an annual event for a small group of people. I hop you will keep it in mind.

Today has been quite a day. I went out for my usual breakfast and then hopped on the #42 bus to the Crillon. We met there and proceed on to the l'Obe restaurant where Frederique was there to greet us. Because we were 4 it was not my usual seating. Nice table! We had such a great time and Lilia, Pat and Jim I will be telling you about our friend. Our whole table and Frederique cannot wait for the next chapter. They could translate all the conversation!! Much humor.

All enjoyed their food, wine and what went on. I did take pictures. We were there forever. We then walked over to the Bar Vendome and they tried sooo hard to get a table forus, but just could not do it. We walked down the street to the Duke's Bar in the Westminster for awhile and then they drove me home.

I am to make reservations at Le Florimond for Friday evening...my last night st Le Florimond for we 4. Will do.

I must get my sleep for my cooking class in the morning. That should be fun!

The tea at the Hotel Bristol looks so inviting, the setting and the food. I will think about doing a tea while I am there.

Hi Joan, the photos of your Thanksgiving dinner etc. are lovely - I must compliment you on your hair. It always looks so shiny and beautifully managed. I have never heard you mention any hairdressers in Paris so you must be doing the very lovely styling!

Bonjour,

Joan,

Where is your friend Florent's restaurant?

Does he mean millefeuille should have neither conventional whipped cream nor the French creme that you would find in choux pastry?

Interesting.

gracejoan3 Nov 29th, 2010 06:28 AM

Bonjour..

My Violon Cooking Class! Arrived at 9:00..a nice table was set up for us with OJ, water, croissants and coffee. We ate, visited and then off to class!!

We first prepared Cailles Farcies au foie gras & aux chataignes , pommes maxime

Next: Tartare d'huitres & Noix de Coquilles de Saint-Jacques au gingembre

Dessert:Dark chocolate souffle, orange marmalade with Grand Marnier

What you need is a new kitchen with all the equipment like at Violon..then you need to take Stephane Schmidt home with you!!

We dined together. Christian came by and visited. I again thanked him for Thanksgiving. Also saw Alexandre and told him what a star he was and our T/G is now an annual affair with a very select group of people.

It was a fun thing..whether you are a cook or not!

Hi Joan...what a great class. Everything looks fantastic. I may have to do one of those classes next time I'm in Paris. After taking several cooking adventures in Italy I swore off cooking classes...way to much pressure from family and friends when I came back to recreate the dishes. I've taken up making reservations as my specialty. Glad you had so much fun.

gracejoan3 Nov 29th, 2010 10:09 AM

I'm with you..making reservations. Which reminds me that I need to make one in the morning for Friday evening.

The class was fun! I have no plans to go home and make it or to begin cooking!

I will pass the recipes on.

grandmere Nov 29th, 2010 10:37 AM

It looks like a lot of fun--and delicious, too!
