Paris nightlife

The price of the Moulin Rouge is completely relative. I gasp when I see people saying that the rate of a 'normal' hotel room for 300 euros a night is reasonable, but of course if that is reasonable, the cost of an evening at the Moulin Rouge is totally reasonable.

True, but the OP also did not indicate that she knew the cost. Of course, maybe the friend invited the OP and is not even expecting her to pay. I still wouldn't go.
Although the website indicates the cost for the show alone is a minimum of 110 euros, those are for the 11pm show out of season. For the 9pm show you may have to spend 175 or more. Again, maybe not a factor for the OP or even myself. I could find hundreds of events in Paris that would interest me more, and some of those would be culturally unique to Paris.

The OP stated they have been many times. Clearly the OP enjoys it. This time, trying to determine if it is worth it one last time for their friend,.

We’ve been there many, many times.
This time our friend wants to do a Moulin Rouge show.
My husband says, “no way!”
I’m not really into it but would go to keep the friend happy.
What do all of you very experienced Fodorites say?
Yay or Nay? And if Yay, which company to use to have the best experience?

I’m late to this party but I am in favor of going. Your friend has always wanted to see it. I’d go see almost anything with someone in that position if everyone knows the cost and agrees to it. And assuming this isn’t a one night visit to Paris, there are other nights to explore other types of nightlife.
Not to mention, the endorsement on this thread by a dancer who actually performed in such a show and has attended others is one of the things that makes this community priceless.
Edited to add that I had not heard of theatre d’objets but after googling, I would be happy to see that too.

I never thought I’d get so much response, good and bad, to my original post.
Yes, we have been to Paris many times but never went to the Moulin Rouge show.
We still haven’t decided. It seems that just as many people enjoyed it as didn’t like it at all.
We are booked in Paris December 11-18 so still have time to decide. A few years ago we visited in December and enjoyed the Christmas markets and decorations. Also, it was nice to have less crowds. The weather was cool/cold, not freezing/cold and we only had rain one evening.
Nice winter memory……eating Tartiflette at the open air Christmas market in the Tuileries on a sunny afternoon.

When I was a preteen, my parents took me to the Casino de Paris and the Folies Bergère and my naive eyes found both shows to be great. Later when I moved to Paris, I went to the Folies Bergère at least twice because they had a special student rate, and the show was still fascinating as well as dazzling. With new technology, I'm quite sure that the Moulin Rouge show is excellent. I will even admit that I follow one of the MR dancers on Instagram. He is Russian and funny.(Leonid Glushchenko).

STOP all this terrible back and forth.
I’m actually almost sorry I asked the question in the first place.
I do appreciate the posters who talked bout the good experiences at the show.
The others, a quick “ I’ve been there, didn’t like it, or think it was worth the cost” would have been enough.

Another question about the Moulin Rouge show….
Does a man really need to wear a sport coat and tie to attend?
We dress smartly but travel light and adding a sport coat to a carry on would be cumbersome.

Cabaret will be fun just not Moulin Rouge. He would like Crazy Horse. Have a look here https://theparisshortlist.com/best-cabaret-in-paris/
or watch live sport, hit some golf balls in Bois de Boulogne, zoo in Vincennes, day trip champagne tasting, Military Museum in Invalides (best in the world!)
enjoy craft beer as well ...theater? so much to do!
