Paris Metro-Which pass should I buy?
Hello everyone,
I am arriving at CDG on a Thursday and am leaving the following Wednesday and am not sure which metro pass to buy.
I want to get to/from the airport and to Versailles one day as well as travel around the center city.
I have been told that a "carte orange" only works from monday to sunday so this I dont think that would work. Maybe I'm wrong?
Anyway, you're help is appreciated.

I think you will just need to buy carnets (packages of 10 transport tickets sold at a discount for the 10). If there is a particular day you feel you will be using the Metro or buses a lot (5 one way trips) you can but a Mobilis pass for the day for about 5E. The airport trip will be on the RER and cost about 7E. you can transfer to the Metro at Gare du Nord to get closer to your hotel via Metro.

It's so inexpensive, so just buy tickets as you need them, and don't worry about finding the cheapest means. It's funny but your question is often posed, as though there were some significant amount of money at stake. There's not, so have fun and throw caution to the wind.

Hi pat,
We have found that a carnet of 10 tickets (10E) usually lasts the both of us for a week.
>..thrifty people would probably avoid travelling to paris altogether.<
Having just returned from a visit to South Florida (East Coast) and Naples (West Coast), I can honestly say that I could have done the same time in Paris for about the same price - and enjoyed it more.
A splurge dinner for two with a good bottle of wine - 140E. In Florence - 85E.
Dinner at a pleasant French restaurant, with wine, for two about 70E. The same in Paris - about 56E.
A "personal" pizza with one glass of wine about 13E. In Italy, 7E.......
A so-so motel in Ocala, 88E, in Beynac 65E - with bkfst.
I am calculating the euro as $1.33.

(OK, it costs less to drive to Fla from GA than to fly to Paris.)

You can also buy a "Paris Visite" pass for zones 1-3 for 7 days. It doesn't include Versailles, but since that's a one-off trip, just pay the zone difference for that trip.
I've been to Paris a few of times, and have always found the "Paris Visite" pass very useful - it provides unlimited travel in the zones it's purchased for. Of course, it's usefullness to you will be determined by how much travelling you will be doing via metro.

Sometimes the PV is the cheapest deal. For example, if you come into CDG in the morning and you're booked on an evening flight out, a Z1-5 PV will get you back and forth from the airport and around town all day for €16.75, which is .15 more than a round trip from Charles de Gaulle to Opéra on the Roissybus.
Figure out what you want to do, and calculate your cost from the tables at
