HELP! Our trip will be in JULY now, NOT June, and NOT April. (It seems that I have the recipe for producing a grandchild. Just plan an international trip, and POOF, a grandchild is conceived who will be born in the middle of a planned trip! Haha!

Just spitballing here, but if you're worried about crowds, why not go to one of the less-heavily touristed parts of France? My France wish list is long and includes the Midi Pyrenees and the Auvergne.
I agree, though, that July isn't the end of the world. While I've only been to Provence in the winter (no crowds!), I was in Paris this July and though the city was bustling, it certainly wasn't a problem for me.
