I had originally posted this question in hopes of helpful responses, and indeed I did get some. I did not however post this question to be insulted or to insult anyone's intelligence or values. I thought this was a travel forum not a value/morality forum. What do people care how I spend my money or anyone else for that matter. Did it ever occur to you that I maybe over 65 and saved all my life to have a fablous week in a foreign land with my life long friends or I maybe a spoiled 25 year old with rich parents. Whatever the reason/cause/income, I don't think a travel forum is where people should be criticizing other people's intelligence based on how they think someone should or should not spend their money. I truly appreciate the folks who took the time to reply to my original question without any judgement. I am sorry that I ever posted this question in the first place.

Sunni<BR>I'm afraid that many of us have had to learn to ignore the trolls. They don't know you, they don't know your circumstances (or anyone else's), they just like to jump to conclusions, pass judgments, and/or vent their meanness. They assume that they way THEY think, and I use that term loosely, is the way everyone else SHOULD think. Or else they just like to stir the pot and see what happens. I suspect they may do this even to people they actually know and that people who have met them eventually regret it.

Good for you, Sunni! Ignore the sniping. I stayed in both when I was a corporate wife but have gone down a star or two since. I have a slight basis toward the Meurice; felt more personal. Fabulous dining there, too.<BR>Wherever you go, it will be wonderful. It's Paris!

The Meurice is also close to several of our favorite restaurants, Le Souffle(try the three course souffle menu--awesome!) and L'Ardoise. And the Bar menu at the hotel is great if you just want a sandwich etc. The downside, for some travelers, not us, is that this general area is very popular with the international community and you will hear a lot of english spoken(generally true at all of the ***** hotel sites).

Actually [email protected], you are mistaken, but it is a common mistake. What Marie really said was <BR><BR>"Qu'ils mangent de la brioche"<BR><BR>Now, cake in French is g&acirc;teau<BR><BR>so she did not say <BR>"Qu'ils mangent de la g&acirc;teau" <BR>so it is not "eat cake" is it?<BR>

I never stayed there but have been in the Maurice, courtesy of German hosts. They had rooms there because it was the headquarters of the German general staff during WWII. <BR>It has a great location, very close to some elegant, though over rated restaurants. The lobby is a mausoleum. The room of my host was as big as some houses. <BR>Your money - your life. Go gals.<BR>I'm on the left bank.
