Paris hotels

This summer my 17 yr old, my husband and I will be staying in Paris for the first time. I have reservations at Elysees Union Apts in the 16th. I am beginning to think perhaps a more lively area like the Latin Quarter or St. Germains would be more fun for my teenager. Any ideas?

Nita
The 16th it out there, especially for a first time visitor. On the other hand, The Latin Quarter may be great for your teen ager but a bit much for you. You might want to consider the 4th (the Marais) It is in the center of the action without the density of the Latin Quarter. Another thought is the Il St. Louis and renting an Apartment? The Island is very medieval, but also quiet and residential, BUT! it is in the 1st and within spitting distance of the Latin Quarter, Notre Dame, etc. Its a part of Paris that surprisingly few visit, given the location. If you want specific recommendation for hotels, check past threads, its a constant topic on the board. Also, fell free to e-mail me if you have other questions.
Betsy

Hi
As Betsy mentioned, the 16th is beautiful but quiet upper middle-class residential while the Latin Quarter-St Germain area (5th and 6th arrondissements) are busier, more central, and with more options for
restaurants and seeing more young people. I love the Marais myself but for this particular trip I would recommend that you stay in the 5th or 6th . I have a Paris file which I will be happy to send if you email me. Also as suggested search on this forum for Paris hotels, go elsewhere on the Fodor's website for hotel picks, and/or look at hotel listings at
www.paris.org among other places

Nita,

Your suspicions are right--you will be much happier in the center of town. I would highly recommend any of arrondisements 1-6. We have often rented an apartment (you can find many sites on the web) which is a great way to do things, especially since you'll have your teenager with you.

I'm a big fan of 2 hotels in the Latin Quarter: Hotel du Pantheon, and Hotel des Grandes Hommes. They're both owned by the same people, and, while they are in the Latin Quarter, the are facing the Pantheon on the top of that little hill there - and the area is relatively quiet. If you decide to opt for a hotel, I can give them my very highest recommendation. at any rate, have a marvelous trip - I'm leaving tomorrow for Paris!
