LOL! Its looking like this GTG is gong to be really fun, with Warner leading the charge!

Woody, we are staying in a studio apartment (VRBO) on rue Aubriot in the 4th. I've stayed in hotels in the 2nd, 3rd and 5th before, so this will be a first for me.

Tod, I too loved your latest pictures. They make me anxious to get back to beautiful Paris, but I'm trying not to wish the summer away!

Tod, I THOUGHT I had seen all your albums, but somehow I missed the one with the photo of you on the plane! I had to go back and find it. You look great, girl! How long was your flight?

Gina, our flight is an overnight one.
Leaving Johannesburg International around 7.30pm and flying directly over Africa, the Med, then Europe.
Arriving LHR at 6.30am.
Going Business is the only way for me as my legs (very-close-veins) need a lotta room! I wore Support Hose most of the entire trip.
Going on towards 65 soon!!

Lunch on the 26th sounds terrific, although sadly probably wont be able to spend too long with you all as there is me and my DH and our two DDs (18 & 16) as well - so much to see so little time!! Our very first trip to Paris (and Europe) and we are staying in Vacation in Paris apartment #79 on Rue Marie Stuart in the 1st. We are from Gawler in South Australia and I am so excited about our whole trip which may I say has been made so much more exciting from the information I have gathered from the wonderful people on Fodors. Looking forward to being there.

Too bad. Am in Paris August 16-19, if anyone else is there. Might possibly be back in late October, too.

Hope you all have a great GTG!

Wow! It looks like California is well represented. Jan (Santa Rosa), Nancy (Berkeley), and me +DW (Los Angeles).

Any other states or countries with more than one representative coming to the GTG?

Hi all,

Here are a couple more suggestions for restaurants for the GTG that seem to fit our needs:

Chez Lena et Mimile
32 rue Tournefort in the 5th
Nice big terrace
Lunch: approx. 15 euros

Chez Clement
9 Place St. Andre-des-Arts in the 6th
Lunch: approx. 15 euros

I've found good reviews of both, and tod has also recommended them. Also, both are in good locations. Anyone have a preference, or other suggestions?

Gee, I posted before reading some of the recent replies.

Woody, California certainly is well represented! Sis and I also lived in California (for over 20 years) in the L.A./Orange County area, before returning to our home state.

mariebut, glad you checked in again. I know what you mean about so much to see and so little time, but we look forward to having you join us even if it is for a brief time.

So far it looks like there will be 12 of us. Still hoping to hear from ggnga.

Hi Gina,

The two most recent suggestions sound great--Chez Clement is on the same street as my rental apt. But, I like the idea of the terrace at the other choice. We leave the US July 30. I'll check this thread from time to time for the final decision on where we're meeting. Thanks! Catherine

Gina,

Either of the recent recommendations sounds fine.

Will any of them take a reservation for a large group?

If its OK with everyone, I'll check to see if we can make a reservation for lunch on the terrace at Chez Lena et Mimile in the 5th for Friday, September 26th at noon (hours are noon-2 for lunch).

Right now it looks like there will be 12 of us.

Hi Guys,

I plan on a few days in Nice and then to Paris around Sept 23 for a week or more -so I would look forward to getting together with other Fodorites on the 26th. I'll be renting a studio apartment in the 5th or 6th but haven't booked it yet so cant give you the info.

I love Paris and this will be third visit. This time I also intend to take a train to Giverny, and also go back to Versailles to see the gardens which I missed last time.

My favorite thing to do in the evenings is go to some of the concerts at the churches. The one at St. Chappelle was incredible as was St. Chappelle. Another place I'll go back to...but there are so many museums I didnt even get to - Would I love to move to Paris? YES!

I'm from Florida about 20 miles North of Fort Lauderdale - and 5 miles from the beach.

Looking forward to meeting you all.

For Mahya2--Do you buy your tickets at FNAC? A great location for you (and me as I'm renting a flat in the 6th that week) is the store on Blvd St. Germain just west of the intersection with Blvd St. Michel.

I've just checked their web site and at this point they only have a few church concerts posted for September, but I've had good luck going to the store as soon as I get to Paris.

I'd be interested in other easier or cheaper ways. Thanks.

Cathinjoetown - you're looking for cheaper church concert tickets? Lots of churches put on free concerts. I went to a spectacular concert at St-Sulpice last fall - free!

When you get to Paris buy a copy of Pariscope from a new kiosk. Look in the concert/music section. If you can't read French then maybe someone will help you. I can't remember how the free concerts are described and didn't bring back a copy of Pariscope. Probably "gratuit" or "entre libre" or something like that but I'm sure someone else will chime in and give the correct info.

Julien-le-Pauvre also gives concerts. You can buy tickets right at the church during the day.

The Cluny Museum gives medieval concerts in conjunction with museum admission on Fridays at 12:30 and Saturdays at 4:00.

There are also Vespers which is sung prayer and can be wonderful if entirely sung. St-Sulpice vespers only has a small part sung. I didn't get to Notre Dame vespers so I can't comment. Their vespers are daily at 5:45 and are sung.

There will be a concert at Notre Dame September 25 at 20:30 (Gregorian Chant) and October 7 (Handel), Oct 14 (Montserrat), Oct 21 (same time). I'm not sure if these concerts are free or if there is a charge but you could ask at the information booth inside the church.
