Paris get-together March 23-25?
#22
My almost 14-year-old daughter and I will be there on March 22-26th and I would love to meet up and also learn about Normandy esp. from the young WWII expert as that is the theme of our summer European travels. Would it be to weird to have all these teens together at Nikki and Tedgale's GTG? Mine is also very sweet and mature...
Let me know...

I think we should put this to our convenor, Nikki.
1. The initial consensus was for a Monday night event -- and people seemed to be gravitating toward dinner.
2. It seems there are folks who would like to join in yet who are unavailable Monday evg.
3. I'd note too that the more numerous we are, the less practical dinner becomes.
I am TOTALLY open -- we arrive midday Easter Sunday and have booked nothing, will play it by ear, day-by-day. So the above observations should be read as analysis/ triage of options, not an expression of preference...nor of scepticism.

If Monday night dinner works best for all concerned, please proceed with that. I wouldn't want my possible potential attendance on another day to interfere with what works best for definite attenders.
That said, the presence of other teens might (might) induce my daughter to attend.

Bonjour everyone!
We will arrive early on the 23rd & staying in the Marais.
We also plan to do the Fat Bike tour on the evening of the 24th.
It would be fun to meet for a glass of wine!
Aloha,
Nancy

Nikki/Luna Bella - Just near Le Souk at 116 Ave.Ledru Rollin/corner Rue de Charonne, is a lovely little typically French Bistro called Bistro du Peintre.
It has an old zinc bar counter and is beautifully 'Art Nouveau' inside.
Tel:01 47 00 34 39.(7am - 2am daily)
I had a lovely lunch there on my last trip and in May will be definitely going back for dinner!

Hi everyone,
The Fat Tire Bike Tour (formally Mike Bike Tour) is now scheduled for 6 p.m. http://www.fattirebiketoursparis.com...ght-tour.shtml
Their web site says no reservations are needed, just show up, so it's not to late to go!
It'd be great to get everyone together, but it may end up being two groups. My husband and I are 53/54 yrs old, and Austin is 11 years old. Hope this works out!

Hi Linda,
Wish you could join us Part of the bike ride is actually going on the boats for an hour.
Nancy, We'll be happy to meet you on March 24! I don't think you have to be in great shape to do this. Hope not, since I haven't ridden my bike since last summer. You do have a long flight, from Hawaii! See you in a month!

Bistro du Peintre is on my list, I don't know whether it is open Monday. Are we still thinking of Monday, or do we want to go to Sunday? Some get excluded either way.
My own preference would be to meet for dinner, but drinks would be OK. I am not so enthused about meeting for a boat ride (done it as many times as I want), but other people might be.

Okay here's hopefully a correct summary of where we're at, as it looks like the GTG has morphed into two activities! (Please correct me if I've made an error regarding your availability or plans.)
Planning to go on the bike tour on Monday, 3/24:
---Images2
---gruezi
---kailuagirl
---LunaBella (I think my son would really love doing this, and to meet the other kids. Thanks for the great idea Images2!)
Could only go to dinner on Sunday, 3/23:
---WillTravel
Could only go to dinner on Monday, 3/24:
---SharonG (including Trio of Terror!)
Could go to dinner either 3/23 or 3/24:
---tedgale
---Nikki
Also it's worth noting that if the dinner were to happen on 3/23, maybe some of the bikers would attend also.
Or here's another idea: maybe we could just make it loose and throw out one dinner location for 3/23 and one for 3/24, and then whomever shows up, shows up! I'll leave it to our instigator/convenor Nikki to make the call.
tod - Thanks for the heads up about Bistro du Peintre. I adore art nouveau! In fact, after we leave Bayeux we are going to stay a few days in Nancy on our way back to Germany. I can't wait! We will visit the art nouveau museums there and also have a reservation to visit La Villa Majorelle. I went to Victor Horta's house in Brussels last year and it will be interesting to compare the homes of these two art nouveau pioneers.
Anyway, if there's one thing better than art nouveau, it's having a glass of wine and some good food surrounded by art nouveau! Your bistro suggestion sounds lovely.

Well can another one join?
I have a FF ticket on hold right now which would have me in Paris on Easter weekend (which I had no idea of earlier today. I just did a search for avaialble flights using low milage over March and April LOL!)
I guess I now need to see if I can find a place to sleep!

This is getting a bit confusing. It is becoming clear that we can't pick a date for everyone, so in an attempt to straighten things out (and with apologies to those whom this proposal might exclude), I pose the following question:
If we stick to the earlier date of Monday, March 24, who would be joining us? I would definitely come. Tedgale, this proposal started out as a request to get together with you, so are you in? Sharon? If it is just us, dinner shouldn't be too unworkable (and even if it is a bit larger, it would still be fine with reservations).
If those who could make it Monday would prefer instead to make it Sunday to include a potentially larger group, please speak up. In fact, speak up either way. It is still possible for me to do it Sunday, although that would be a slight bit less convenient for me, as I am going to the Comedie Francaise Sunday afternoon.

Monday is fine with me. We will need to find a place that's open on the holiday -- that will be a constraint.
I like Bistrot du Peintre but they have no website. This illustrates another constraint re determining who is open -- so many Paris restaurants don't have sites!
We need to fix on a restaurant before we all lose internet contact. I'm in limbo as of March 4.

According to my Time Out Paris Eating & Drinking, Le Bistrot du Peintre is open daily 7AM- 2AM and closed December 24, 25. If I get brave enough to call and put my French to the test, I will try to confirm that. It's funny, but it seems more of a challenge for me to make a phone call in French from the US than to start using it once I get there. Just have to break the ice.
Will you have a cell phone, Ted? Just in case someone needs to call while we're all away from the computers? Why don't you send me an e-mail, I'm at NKermish at hotmail dot com. You too, Sharon, and anyone else who plans to meet us.
